After seeing all the creative and cool hosts people on LPF were using for their Blu-rays I just had to build one for myself. Only problem was finding a host no one has used yet... Turned out to be a greater task than I had thought since it seemed as if people were coming up with a new and smaller host every other week. Well, I found what I think is the smallest PRACTICAL host. It's a single AAA sized LED from DX, approx. 93mm X 20mm. The reason I chose this host is because it allows the use of an Axiz module with little modification, and I didn't have to try too hard to find a suitable battery. My first version of the laser was actually better looking than the second but functionality was limited as it required more effort to focus the beam, which is already a task by itself. So the second version has the module extended forward by 2mm to allow the use of the Axiz focusing grip. It doesn't stray too far from the original but doesn't have the clean OEM look. Needless to say, after burning through almost everything I focus the beam on, I'm quite over the difference in looks. I am currently running the PHR diode at 150mA, RELIABLY. I say that because I've had the thing on for almost 10 minutes straight and it's still going strong. The output is unknown as I have no way to measure it but the thing burns like a champ! So without further delays, here are some pix for your viewing pleasure. Hope you like it!

I'm thinking about making more of these to sale, but don't know if anyone would be interested...

Nicely done!

As far as selling them is concerned, be prepared for some stiff competition in the forum. Out in the world, people will buy them, but on here, you've got to do something "special." If you guess wrong about how "special" you idea is, you end up with lasers sitting on your desk waiting for the next rock show or you run a "fire sale."

Peace,

did you use a rkcstr or flexdrive driver? I'm not sure what that battery is but I'm guessing flexdrive?

and yes, selling blu rays is a bit hard at the moment. you'd be better off selling them on another website where people don't know about the 20-30$ PHR803T diodes..

good luck, nice looking laser. how much were you thinking of selling them for?

Wow that looks really nice, would be great for carrying around. If you want to sell them you should first get the output tested, you could send away to a trusted forum member for them to meter it, but I don't think they will do it with lots of lasers at once.

Very nice! What driver did you use? Do you mind giving me the link where you bought that host, if you don't want to, then don't worry about it :)

The laser is running off a Flexdrive adapted to the board from the led and powered by a single 10440 3.6v rechargeable. I wish I could measure the output but as of right now, I don't have any resources. As for
selling them... I'm not so sure about it because the parts I used all added up to almost 100$ :-/ on the other hand I'm glad it's been getting positive feedback so far :D Oh yea, I was playing with the focus earlier and managed to burn a hole in my door at over 20 feet! ;D

As for the link to the host Spyder:

I was thinking about building one in the rebel knight LED but at 25$ a pop... it's quite an expensive host on top of my already pricey build... but man does it look mean! Maybe someone here might want to build one and send me some pix? haha ;)

So you just soldered the components from the flexdrive onto the original board? Will a flexdrive itself fit inside the flashlight?

No, I had to sand both sides of the Flexdrive down to fit and delete the components on the original board. I basically used the original board for a good contact surface for the battery and case.

Where did you get the batteries (10440)?

They are available all over, but online. Search 10440 in Google. You will find a supplier you can deal with

Which Flexdrive did you use? Drlava has two. How much did you have to sand to make it fit?
So all you did was solder the flexdrive to the original led board and use a 10440 battery at 3.6v to power it up?

I found these at DX, cheaper than any other online. ;)
