It might be the diode used by Olympus in their fluorescent imaging scanners, which could certainly be a Nichia. If someone has a contact in Olympus, it might be worth checking out. Otherwise, there's nothing to do but to wait for a test.

Why would it be that exact diode? I don't understand. :-?

Wow I just read the whole post. :p I am hoping these are comparable to the 6X.

IgorT you say you have a good feeling about these. Do you think they will match the GGW-H20L 6x Sleds? I know you haven't done any testing, but your intuition seems to serves you well! Lol! ;D

Well, Susie was very cooperative, told me everything i wanted to know, the story checked out, and....

Today i got this tiny litte envelope with the mail. It contained a tray meant to hold 100 diodes. The tray was sealed in an ESD protection bag by the factory, as i requested. The factory is a laser show manufacturer, which has nothing to do with Susie directly. She just found their diodes and negotiated the purchase of a sample for me... ;)

Susie declared it exactly as i asked, and included an "invoice" i sent her, meant to prevent our customs from getting too excited. The package was opened, but they stopped at the invoice. They get scared when they read ESD sensitive devices! Observe proper handling procedures! ;D

And then it was time for some photos...

The barcode looks familiar, but it's not identical to any of the usual suspects...

At first i thought it could be the 6x. But that barcode is different as well.. It will take a detailed analysis, to find out more. A full P/I/V plot will be very revealing!

But let's just say, it's looking real good so far... ;)

It's possible that this is a completelly new diode. But it is interesting how they are all marked the same way. Could they all come from Nichia?

In any case, i believe it will make a REALLY good laser.. For scientific purposes of course.. ::)

Yeah, it's beautiful. A virgin diode, no scratches no solder, long pins..

What i wouldn't do for a full tray..  ;D

Another macro, showing the barcodes in more detail.

Yeah, i can't wait to test this baby! I have no doubts it's a good diode. But there is a lot to be learned from it!

And it will make a nice laser too...  But i'm doing it for science, obviously...  ::)

The barcodes differ on every diode. They are serial numbers.
