Re: New on CNI 405nm 50mW Violet Pointer & 70mW Mo

nice! the beam looks pretty thin and the divergence says less than .5mrad!!

I'm curious to see how much they cost, and if they're CW or not.

Interesting. Won't be long before these filter down to the resellers.

The big question though, what's the price? Will it be insane like the WL Sonar, because this is a pretty colour and completely new in the market? Or will it be reasonable, because they are so cheap to build (for us)?

I'm sure DL will have these pretty soon, I'm curious to see the prices on these, I'm sure it will be much cheaper to build our own PHR-803T pens though.

How long does it ussually take for a new laser to make it to market? Can somone send an email or I will if someone gives me it. This thing could ruin the DIY market.

I guess few weeks, look at dilda ;D  - I am currently checking price and asking for a sample.

OMFG

Don't worry about the DIY market. It's safe. Professionally constructed lasers will always be more expensive than homebuilt systems. The electronics are not simple current regulators, they are highly complex circuits allowing for modulation, current control and sensor feedback. The outputs are stabilized meaning they have to build in the feedback controls to stabilize the output from the photodiodes, as well as add cooling systems. I am speaking, of course of lab systems, but the portables are not much simpler. The windows and optics you find in commercial lasers are far beyond the glass or plastic lenses found in aixiz or other diode housings and hence more expensive.

My company has access to a wide range of near UV laser systems but we don't want to offer them openly. There just isn't a huge call for them in the scientific fields yet. M2 on diodes laser can be upwards of 30 leaving a poor quality beam and are generally found as illuminators or fiber coupled. Most researchers need solid state or gas laser systems because of their high quality beam specs.

GooeyGus mentioned a divergence of 0.5mrad. You all have experience with diode lasers. Have you ever built a laser that had such a low divergence? Can you imagine the cost in optics to bring something that can be 15-30mrad depending on the axis at the output down to .5mrad and still have a thin beam. It's not cheap.

It says in the data sheet that the beam is ~4mm in diameter. Not very impressive. :-/

473nm blue laser pointer is QCW.This 405nm pointer is CW mode.

8mRad beam divergence? What a joke, lol

Price from CNI for 0.6mW one:
GLP-405nm-0.6-2mW/Unit USD445.00
for the the price you can build 6x Blu-Ray 200mW ;D

Re: New on CNI 405nm 50mW Violet Pointer & 70mW Mo

They are pricey, but like frothy said these are a whole different monster.

yes I'm sure they use the same or similar diodes as us, but think of how cool a 405 would be with the beam diameter close to that of a green and with a divergence of only .5mrad. That's pretty damn impressive. I almost want to buy one just to check it out. Then when it dies, throw a badass 405 diode in there and hopefully retain the awesome beam specs!
