Recently I had the pleasure of ordering a beastly 145mW blu-ray from daguin (Dave).  It was ordered on Sunday, dropped in the mail (trackable...schweet!) on Monday and arrived today at my job.  It was sturdily packaged with plenty of bubble wrap and packing peanuts to protect the beast within.  A small piece of paper was labeled "6-7-08 177mA 147mW Meredith Glass".

I managed to unpack it and put the batteries in before lunch.  First of all, it's a heavy, robust unit, shaped almost like a chicken leg.  Then I powered up this monster.  Holy smokes!  That's right, my desk was smoking from the voluminous amount of 405nm photons hitting a very small portion of my desk.  I then set the laser for a more traditional collimation.  The dot is quite oblong, but very thin on it's minor axis and about as 5mW greenie.  Even without a pinprick focus, this laser will sting skin almost immediately.

Of course, my office, garishly lighted, didn't allow me to take full advantage of this laser's beamy goodness.  I'll post more later when I can release the beast at night!  I'm also recharging the batteries with my 18650 charger (3.6V) with a suitable spacer.

My first impression...nothing short of impressed!  ;)   Thanks, Dave!

Your welcome. Have fun with it. You'll probably notice a slight difference in brightness from your Enerbeam (I have one too) unit ;)

The elongated beam when unfocused is normal with these diodes as is more visual "scatter" around the beam and dot.

Remember, we are still thinking that we need to limit the duty cycle at this power level. The jury is NOT "in" yet, but better safe than sorry. Right now, I would still limit this to about 2 minute burns (until we know more).

Peace,
dave

I'm usually pretty paranoid about frying diodes so I usally don't keep a laser on for more than one minute at a time before allowing it to cool. Good to know I got extra time.

Yup, I am familiar with the elongated bare diode dot. And honestly, there isn't too much scatter - the dot is pretty clean.

I will be taking pics as soon as these batteries recharge.

I have been known to get "involved" with the laser and forget that time is passing. :-[ :-/ :-?
