Murder fund
10 people, $18 a piece
Or 20 people, $9 a piece. Let's do this thing, I'm ready to donate to a murder fund, and have Dave push it to 1W? Who's down?

I'd be down - but at $9. I feel like there should be 20x people willing to contribute, given the vast number of people who would eat up the specs and details afterwards.

That's what I'm saying. 20 people on a site with thousands of users? Surely to god 20 people can donate 9 dollars.

The 12X speed limit is caused by the wobble created at such a high speed, NOT the power of the diode.

I suppose so - its a similar problem with the dvd drives getting no faster than 20-something times.

I'm not sure how it works with these drives, but i bet they can writer the outer track faster than the inner one already. just because the disk will not spin reliably any faster. Or the disc just shatters - YouTube - CD exploding 23.000 RPM - :D

It is exactly the same thing. CD and DVD speeds didn't stop rising because they couldn't make a more powerful IR or red diode. It didn't make sense to make a more powerful diode because they couldn't spin the discs any faster anyway.

12X bluray has reached that same speed limit. Now they are going for more layers and using dye rather than pits.

BDXL isn't even being marketed to the entertainment industry. The drives and discs are NOT compatible with other bluray drives. BDXL is being marketed to the commercial storage market.

Peace,
dave
