I'm looking to build a 405nm laser with the 16x diode pretty soon but I'm not sure what lens is best. I know the difference between the G2 and the 3 element lens but I just can decide on one. I'd like your opinions because I'm finding both lenses being used for this diode.

If you can afford the G2 lens is will be about the best you can get for a 405nm build.

Hi,
Yes the G2 is what you want for the 405nm diode perfectly paired .. This one i built with a custom full copper sink and knob with a G2 lens . They burn like mad.

Hi ,
No not really aluminum is fine to , you can get away with an aluminum sink in a C6 size host with respectable duty cycles. I just mentioned copper because it's heat sinking capabilities. Even an aluminum sink with a
Copper core pressed in will work also.
Like this but on a smaller scale.

Is a copper heat sink necessary for a decent duty cycle? I've seen builds with just an aluminum heat sink.

Should still get a decent duty cycle with Aluminum and a 16x, copper would improve that further.

I'd be conservative with the driver current as these diodes fail often when over driven to 1 watt. The G-2 lens is AR coated for 405nm and is, of course, your best solution for a lens of this build.
