Re: Need help, advice or opinions on ebay purchase

im using this piece of crap http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10902 ... it was a awesome flashlight.. but then then LED broke... then the clicky.... so i fixed the clicky got the parts i needed to make my laser made a few things to fit inside and ta da... i had to use a couple washers as my heat sink but it still looks good, ill have a couple pictures soon

i wouldnt try the flashlight that i used if i were u...lol...

go for the dorcy jr, it will be a lot easier since there r heat sinks made for it and video guides like this

Re: Need help, advice or opinions on ebay purchase

Well here is a picture of what I have left from my junk green. I would love to find a way to build a blu ray and use this as a housing. I really like the size of the pen style lasers and how I hardly notice it in my pocket. I can find dimensions for anything on it but I have a serial number for the module itself. Google doesnt give much for results. n60985686

Could I possibly build a regular old 5mw blu ray (violet ) laser using the diode form an xbox 360 hd dvd drive and use the driver board from a green laser with an adjustable pot? Just remove the green diode and solder in the violet? You know just to hold me over till i build my burner?

the green driver runs a lot higher than the phr can handle. and the xbox 360 sled has a 60mW in there ;) you can push it over 100mW though  driver boards are cheap enough, $35 total for the diode, driver board and aixiz module to put it all in ;) I wouldn't drive the violet diode over 100mA if you want it to last

Re: Need help, advice or opinions on ebay purchase

So you are saying that the diode I am about to remove from my hd dvd player for the 360 can be pushed to 100mw? If indeed I need a different driver board please send me a link to where I can buy it right. I wanna order it right now along with a new aixiz module.

Thanks alot for everyones help so far.

Im actually extracting the diode right now. Just thought it would run off the green driver. I also have no clue how to know the output of the driver anyway. I kinda just built my red and hoped and prayed it didnt fry and it worked great.

if it says phr-803t on it then yes, some people have pushed it past 150mW and daguin had one at over 200mW for a while. theres another one called the 8011 or something in it, I think it can be pushed to 110mW or so. but I could be wrong on the second one. I've had several PHR-803T diodes last at 100mW for a while and so have tons of members on here ;D

Re: Need help, advice or opinions on ebay purchase

That just made my xmas day knowing I already have the diode :) now I feel just a bit closer to having my blu ray, now If I culd just find the driver to fit that pen and grab my optics I will be literally all set. its gotta run off 3.0v though. Im still uncertain as to what driver. I know there are the micro flex drivers available, and there are some on stoneteks site for about 15 bucks.

Is the blu ray diode 4 prong or 3 prong? I have 2 diodes here to extract. 2 laser pointer ;) red and violet I assume there are, reds usually have 3 prongs.

on the hd dvd player 3 prong = ir for cd's 4 prong = blu for hd dvd's and red for dvd's correct?

Great video ;D Bugattitude
How many volts can the dorcy junior provide?  How many ma does it provide.  It appears to output around 140ma scince the laser was at 140mw.  Can you run a violet diode this way.  They take less voltage than a red diode.

Re: Need help, advice or opinions on ebay purchase

Ok got video no audio, anyway. Im on the verge of giving up here lol. I def dont have the "above average" soldering skills to create this driver. I had one hell of a time with ddl's driver for my red. I cant see mysefl making one of these tiny drivers from the kits to fit in my module lol.

Im about ready to order the dorcy heatsink, and a driver prebuilt if I can find it. I just dont have any tools to measure output in order to be sure Im where I need to be so I dont destroy my diode. And I also need a dummy load......what a pain. I know it will be worth it however and when I am done I will fully know what I am doing but getting there is the difficult part im ready to give up on lol.

Also in black print on the diode it says SB016J781, google turned up nothing for me.

Re: Need help, advice or opinions on ebay purchase

I dont lnow exact;y what diode I have however its all set up in the module. If I buy the micro flexdrive v3 with a preset current of 100mA will I be safe or should the mA be a bit lower? And will it be safe to just solder on the diode and add power is it really necessary to get a dummy load?

Re: Need help, advice or opinions on ebay purchase

that should be plenty of current. You could push it past that as maxkill said 150ma which is where mine runs at.
