hi guys absolutely love this forum..! Does anyone have or know where to get datasheet info on my diode, i.ve looked on loads of datasheet archive pages, but keep drawing a blank..! it's powered by a LM317 AT 9v currently @ 120ma and it's doing quite nicely, doesn't get hot at all (could be the little mini vice i.ve got it in acting as a good heat sink)?..i'll try download some pics if i can., it's a toshiba BDX-1100 blu-ray player only. What's also wierd is it's pinout is like a red. Took me a while to suss it out, put my dmm onto diode mode, neg lead on the middle all gold pin and red lead to right hand pin and got a pd reading so i wired it like a red and it works fabulous, any info on it would be great..

Really. The pinout of a red appear on a BR diode. That is indeed unusual.

I was thinking this was surely just another PHR-803t until you mentioned that. So then in the diode's negative lead common to the case all on its own?

Unfortunately, without any other data on this component, there is not much to know until it is first learned. 120mA is a good guess, but could be way too much given all we know. Typically, a reading diode has a CW output of 15-60mWs given past diodes used for reading.

The PHR-803t was a 60mw diode commonly driven here at 120mA for example.

One other slightly useful bit of info might be the lasing threshold for this one. If you can find your Ith, you can compare it to the datas found here on the forum on the PHR series diodes commonly found.

Just an idea though. Unless you have an LPM with data-logging, not too much more info can be learn from this one.

thanks for the reply mate..! It's definately wiped like a see, unusual. It lased between 27.2 to 50ma then kicked much brighter at 90 and continued to till 120ma, it burns really well and goes mental on fluorescent and luminous stuff, i.ll try a couple more ma's slowly in a few days and i.ll post my results.! Great forum this.. Thanks again mate.. GOOD LUCK AND TAKE CARE..!

sorry.. That was supposed to say wired not wiped damn predictive text on my old nokia n95..!

oh..! And should have said red not see..! Sorry.

PHR-805T right..! I.ll have a search for data on that, if it's pinout isn't like a red, looking from behind the ld with gold pin top middle, neg lead to middle all gold case pin and pos on the left, which i found unusual for blu ray, it won't be that. I've wound it up to 125ma and it's fine (touch wood and fingers crossed an all that!!.), just get's a tiny bit warm, but it's working great, kicks the arse off my long thin hand held bought one, when it burns stuff, there's a vibrant pinky orange colour from where it's burning, burns white stuff to, i'll probably get a good few more ma's, but i'm gettin wet feet!!. I'm waiting on a 200mw blue/violet to arrive from china, been 4 weeks and counting..!(talk about a slow boat eh... Ha ha!..) anyway cheers for the message mate i.ll have a look for the 805.... Long may my tiny blu live..! Take care ya'll..!.!

A 12x build for who ped.?.. Me, or, you?.. Funny that, cos i.ve just made a boss little contact, some guy in aigburth just down the road from me has got a little computer repair shop, and got chattin to him, told him i was into lasers etc bed asked him if he gets any knackered drives he's had to replace's not to lash them i'd give him a few quid for em,he said sound, call in bout once a month,he give us a GSA-T20N for nowt and i picked up a x-box 360 HD DVD ya know, the external one it's only got the DT0811 (better than nowt like), can't wait to see what he's got for us in the future, oh.! and that bdgreenb guy could be right bout the 805T, just looked at a thread bout one, same pinout, didn't think i'd get one of them in a commercial household blu ray player tho..! TAKE CARE YA'LL!!.

You can check the maximum current by hooking the leads to a bench psu, set it in constant voltage mode, and slowly bump it up untill the Vf reaches close to 5V.. note the current from there, increase the Vin by 0.1V increments and go up to 5.5V.. The current reading on the bench PSU at this input voltage will be the maximum current it can safely handle..

Hope this helps.

nice one for that guys..! I.ve got it up to 135ma. But really getting wet feet now though, don't wanna overcook it, so i.ll leave it on that for a while, cheers for all your help!!.
