Thumbs up My new PHR-803T + balloon pop

Just put my PHR-803T on my little test board and experimented with it.

I have it set at 100mA its pusling at 700Hz because of the last tests I was doing with other diodes, I just didn't feel like changing the circuit at the moment.

Here the video.

You know, lasers are meant to be pulsed! At that rate you should turn the mA up a little, around 120mA would be better. Also it looks like you aren't using a heatsink, so you should check the temperature of the module every so often to make sure it doesn't overheat.

Great job, if you can turn up the frequency you'll probably get a higher output, Like Jim said you can go to 120mA CW with a PHR, and get a proper heatsink so you can up the duty cycle.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a schematic for that pulse driver you have there .

I am really impressed to see the distance you have on that balloon pop!

Here is the schematic, its pretty much the standard LM317 driver powering the diode and a 555 timer setup pulsing a transistor to ground. I just threw that schematic together using Multisim, I was rather tired at the time so the pin-outs might not be entirely accurate but you get the concept.

Throw me some PMs if you have any more questions.

Thank you sir! I would really like to try out a pulsed PHR and I think this will give me the opportunity to do so! I just sent off my 156mA PHR to BCM to get power graphed and I may have a pulse circuit waiting for its arrival. Thanks!

I may be wrong but i think that you may have a little problem finding a host that will fit your driver.LOL. Looks good. I would definetely consider having some sort of heatsink.

Hi guys,

If I want to run the PHR-803T at say 110mA, what voltage should I use? I've got a PSU that allows me to adjust V and A at the same time.

Thanks.
