I have searched for blue laser sight like 40 times and most times i end up here.So i thought id ask,how hard would it be to take a existing Red/green laser sight for my M4 and switch the diode out for a blue one? Or, I have a Surefire M300a MiniScout ,could i buy a cheap airsoft replica and build it in that? maybe self contained in the head so i could unscrew the LED head and screw on the laser head onto my surefire body?

Is it possible, and what would it take? Is there someone on here that could do a diode swap or whatever it needs to an pre-made sight?

I really want to stick it to my buddies who think they are L33T with their greens.

I would happily send a new sight to a reputable member for modifications.
it doesnt even need to handle the recoil from the 5.56,as this will mostly be for demonstrational purposes and not for tactical use.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help, and heres a pic of the weapon its wanted for.

It wouldn't be too impossibly difficult as the existing diode is likely a 5.6mm. The thing is, you'd have to switch out the driver most likely.

So this would basically be a host retrofit.. the thing is, what power would you want to run that blue at. The existing optics in that sight probably cannot handle 500mW -> 1W, and keep in mind that "visibly", blue is relatively dimmer than green in some circumstances.

So, do you not care much about the power? Or do you want it to be a screaming 1W laser sight? In which case, tactical or not, when showing it off to your buddies you may also end up blinding them. So I'd recommend driving it pretty low, but this may not get you the desired 'wow' effect compared to greens.

Overall, yeah, it can be done; I wouldn't trust myself to do it but I'm sure there are folks here who could replace the diode and driver.

A host is a host is a host, in most cases. Well, except: here's the question. In this sight, where's the power source? Is it internal to the sight unit or external to it, and what is it? (What type of batteries, and how many, etc.)

My surefire takes 1 cr123 , 2 cr123's are about the same as most tactical lasers.
I'm not worried about blinding anyone , if I can avoid shooting them , I should be able to avoid blinding them.

I'd like it to be close to as bright as a green laser, but that's the major drawback to green, its stupidly bright and is like a neon arrow above your head saying where it's coming from so , as long as I have a decent dot brightness I don't need excess beam brightness . If that makes sense.

I like it to be Visable but not as bright as the blue ray phaser I saw on YouTube .

So yeah 2 cr123's internal , pressure switch activated laser , then a driver and diode swap. Oh and it obviously would need to be adjustable still to sight it in .
Or at least line up with my iron sights.
