so few weeks ago I have finished my first PHR laser. It's powered by 1 9V battery, using LM317 driver @ 100mA, output power about 70mW. I used Aixiz module with standart lens. When powered by battery, it burns olny first 3 minutes, after that it's weak. But when powered by power supply, it burns :D
future plans:
-addnig an external power conector
-rechargable battery
-some heatsink ;) , more power
(-& then try RGB laser)

photos (from left):
1. prototype
2. build
3. comparison with 5mW green & 5mW red
4. inside
5. nice beam shot

You're obviously having fun with this stuff - good for you and thanks for the pics..

You're right, a couple of 14500 lithiums would add some serious longevity to your build.

if you get rid of the 9v battery and step up to like 12 you will have a kick ass burner.

Nice build and good pics, well done. Getting a better power source will help with burning and longevity. Keep us posted to your future build and upgrades.

It is hard for me to tell in the picture, but is that a double safety switch or an either/or situation? Either way, very nice build! I agree with chip, go with 3 14500's or equiv. I think you will like that a little more

there are 2 switches - one is switch (ON-OFF) -I can turn it on, put it on the desk & enjoy the beam :D - and second is only a button - like a normal laser pointer

Ahhh, gotcha. That is a really good idea. Great build:yh:

yes it is... but there is no heatsink...

I don't run a heatsink on my PHR labby. Just a little arctic-cooling MX-2 on the diode and threads (it is an o-like/LSP style module). I don't really have much heat problems. I will note: At 118mA it did not even get warm but yesterday when I cranked it to 131mA it actually starts to build up a little heat.
