ok so i ordered a phr-803t from drew on here. i am going to be running this diode with the rkcstr driver i was wondering is there anyway to calculate the current without a dummy load?

thanks
dan :)

You could get it preset unless you already ordered it. Otherwise, wait for someone else to answer as I'm not sure. From what I've been told, however, it is necessary to have a dummy load. But don't take my word.

i use 120 to 130 ma fixed drivers it usually gives me 90-120 mw it all depends
on the diode  ;)

I think thats what you were asking? correct or no :-?

I set the current myself with a multimeter. I didn't use a dummy load :)
I ordered 2 phr diodes from Drew as well. My driver is ready to be connected to the module. But believe me, using a multimeter to set the current is a lot less effort and you save money.

How did you set the current without a dummy/test load? Just hooking the meter to the driver will NOT give you a correct reading. The meter will have a different load/pull than the diode will.

i havent used a dummy load ever.
i have always just used a current meter directly on the driver.

it may not be 100% correct but i set mine to max curent limit not a precise diode current.
and else i can always measure in series with the diode works just fine to

You are one lucky bug (or your settings are lower than most)

Peace,
dave
