So I've started my first blu ray project. My brother went down to frys electronics and got a used hd dvd hard drive. We extracted the diode successfully, and we bought the components for the driver at radio shack, and wired that together,

Heres where we ran into trouble..

When we got everything wired up, our driver was spitting out 6.4 Volts. Is that how much we should be expecting?

After everything thing was hooked up, our hd dvd diode ended up being fried(we knew this might be the case because the guy at the store said he wasnt sure the HD DVD drive was any good...it was a display model, because it wasnt in a package), and after that our driver started spitting out 12 Volts...pretty sure this isnt right. What would be the cause for that?

Does anyone have a circuit driver diagram that would FOR SURE work with the HD DVD diode, and not end up frying it?

We are planning on soldering up the driver ourselves. this isnt my first time pushing around the hot end of a soldering iron, so I think I can do it....

Any thoughts on making this work for the first time?

Thanks!

Drivers should be current regulating, not voltage regulating. I suggest you do some reading before you proceed further.

Would you know where I can find a schematic for a CURRENT regulating driver for the HD-DVD diode?

This isnt a schematic but its what i used in my project. Hope it helps but i would still get a second opinion.

As I said, do some reading. The search button is an excellent place to start.

In your infinite wisdom, would you be able to give me some ideas of where might be a good place to start looking? I'm 17 years old, so I'm not quite sure where to start searching, and what to start searching for...

Hey cod4pwns08. IF your looking for a easy driver build the DDL driver is what you want. it uses a LM317t regulator to regulate current. DDL driver There s a great diagam in post 7. but reat the first post throughly to get an understanding of whats being done.

I hope this is what your looking for,. I know its hard to search if you have no idea what to look for.....
