My 110 mW Blu-Ray

To make a long story short, I had an account here about two years ago, but I lost my old E-Mail and cannot remember the name of the account... Lucky me. I gave up and just made a new one; which is what I am using to post this.
:/

I was interested in the Blu-Ray lasers for a while, but never made one. I was digging through my project files on my old computer and ran across the “lasers” folder. I ended up making a 110 mW Blu-Ray.
I love the thing. When it is dark, I can see the beam very well. I can even see it in moderate lighting if there is a dark background.

Anyway... Pics.

My little 50 mW Red and my Blu-Ray:

No chance anyone would like to buy this off me?
$140, US only. Free shipping.
PM me for info. :)

The output chart that came with the diode.
According to that, the output on 9v with my driver would be 150 mW.
It burns tape nicely. I also lit some fireworks with it.

Where did you get the LD that comes with an output chart...

I just did a little research.
Looks like the provided graph lied… Surprise.
It looks like I am really getting about 110 mW.
Oh well… It still works, and burns things. :p
I’m going to change the topic….

You will be hard-pressed to sell that for $140 =\. It looks like about $30 in parts. The diode is a PHR without a doubt and the driver is missing components in the picture.

But... Welcome to the forums

I contacted the seller and asked if the LDs he uses were prime stock or
from Blu-Ray Drives...
He was honest and said Blu-Ray drives... My guess is the LD is a PHR-803T...

Ice, we are not trying to disappoint you, rather, inform you. This is now your encyclopedia for laser knowledge.

Nice work Jerry!

It was so long ago I don't even remember a rep system... Thanks.
Anyway, it looks like I got ripped off on the price.
I didn’t know that Blu-Rays have evolved so much. I'm from the days of $70 for a 10mW diode... I saw 150 mW and thought WOW. I guess not.
...

Also, someone said that the driver was missing parts?
Where?

Thanks for all of your help. :)

In the only picture that clearly shows the driver. There are several places that have open component spots. That tells me this driver is some type of universal dealy. Also we are in the 1/2w bluray times now :p

You still got a good deal on a +100mW Blue-Ray with Driver and built...

eBay only allows lasers of 5mW or less to be sold legally in the USA...

@cust11... yeah but it will cost you about $200.00US for that 500mW Blu-Ray LD..:undecided:

Ebay doesn't want lasers <5mW sold on their anymore. You could "part it" and sell it if you wanted. That wouldn't be against the ToS. IMO just keep it and add it to your laser collection.

Mike: Thats a fixed-value driver, I believe - the reason it looks like there are missing components is because the SMD pads are set up for different numbers and combinations of resistors to preset the output current...

Welcome back to the forums, and yes it's true, the 1/2 watt BR is a very real (and not altogether prohibitively expensive) reality !!!
