well im not starting it until im sure it can be done properly but i have an MXDL 3W with a cr123a battery and i want to turn it into a laser i have been told that with just a resistor it can be turned into a red but if the truth be told i want it to be my first blu-ray, but here is the problem

I think i need a "boost" driver to get the voltage from 3V to what is needed please correct my stupiddness :p

but because im a noob lol  :D i dont know the parts of values needed

also because it will proberbly break first time round it made me think is there a reason why i should i use a DT-0811 insted of o 803T ?

Thanks jamie

A DT0811 is going to be more expensive than an 803T, since the only source is the xbox HDDVD drives. Believe it or not, the 803T's are pretty much the cheapest blu-ray diodes we know of, other than the PS3 diodes which are only a few dollars less.

As far as a driver, the most widely used boost driver would be the flexdrive made by DrLava, which would be perfect for your application. They can be found in the buy/sell/trade section.

good luck!

Also You'll probably want to use a heat sink, I think Jayrob makes some for the MXDL that are really nice, but I'm not sure if it fits your exact model or not  :)

EDIT: and yes the flexdrive 2 is the one you want, I dont even think he sells the originals anymore so you're good to go!

Thanks and if jayrob does make a heatsink to fit my model i may consider it but i wanted to do everything myself, but if i wait about 8 weeks till i go back to collage after the holidays i will be able to make my own as i have access to a lathe ( i am studying mechanical engineering ) i know it proberbly wont be as good as one jayrob could make but the satisfaction of making it myself is what im looking for lol sad i know lol :D

I'd like to buy some heat sinks if you make some heat sinks for the MXDL.

as gooeygus said the flexdrive is really the best option, they are in high demand though, hopefully DrLava can supply everyone!

Man, I just looked at the thread title and I thought you were going to stick 3 watts of blu-ray power in an MXDL.

And I was just like, 'I wanna get me in on some of that action' , but it's the 3W MXDL torch casing... :(
