looks like my bluray project is on hold indefinitley! I ordered a 803t in a axis module on Oct 14 and a lava drive on Sept 28 and nither one has arrived, turns out that yet ANOTHER asshole vs pilot incident has caused the Canadian goverment to put a stronghold on the shipment of any package containing the word "laser" and going to a home address! Thanks alot to all the little punks out there for risking hundreds of inocent lives and ruining a cool hobby for the rest of us!

Do you have a link to an article?

I just got a bunch of parts in from china and the US with no problems. I also noticed on one of my packages that it was marked as 3 watt laser diodes ::) My mailman also stated that there is a shortage of customs people on the inbound Canadian side, which is why I only pay fees on 1 or 2 packages out of ten, when I recieve them.

I called the post office to inquire and the not soo polite person on the other end said the wait is due to an incident that occured at pearson in toronto on Monday I believe. A pilot was blinded on approach just seconds from touch down, this was deemed "the final straw".

I hate how they blinded, when they only get lasers shined on them for a short amount of time. Its like impossible to hit someone in a plane in the eye for long enough to blind them. I know that its extremely stupid and can cause serious injury or death of hundreds.

There is an increasing amount of stupidity flooding the laser market.

they mentioned the terrorist title to me, that's how they're treating incoming pakages marked laser. They're likley running my name through the system. Good thing all my crimes are bike related.

Do you have any lasers mounted on your bike? like in the head light or something like that.

And anyone trying to take down an airplane is considered a terrorist by a vast number of people. It may not be true but people have the right to there own opinion.

The media strikes again... When will they focus on the important things? They talk about how a pilot ALMOST crashed, while planes DO crash more often then they talk about stuff like this.

White lasers, huh? Sounds a whole lot like freakin' flashlights. It is HIGHLY unlikely for a white laser to be shone at a plane.

I do, however, support the giant fine and jail time. I think with such a heavy penalty in place, there might just be less incidents. But confiscating laser parts, perfectly legal to buy, sell, and own, is starting to sound like communism to me. Also kind of off topic, but has anyone noticed how much closer the US government is coming to a communism/dictatorship recently with the Patriot Act?

i agree on the whole stupidity on confiscating laser parts, but dont you find it ironic that we are all getting these "dangerous" items from a communist country?

Correction, China is a capitalistic society now, and may even be more capitalistic than the US is in some ways.  They are an oligarchy, but they are capitalists.  So really it makes perfect sense for there all the cheapest stuff to be coming from China, because there is demand for it and they are capitalists.  In fact, China has recently highlighted some of the biggest problems with unregulated capitalism, with their environmental problems and the milk and other product safety scares.  Classic cases showing the necessity of regulation in societies instead of completely unregulated free markets and trade.

Don't confuse types of government with economic systems, and communism is an economic system. As far as system of government, China is definitely not a democracy, it is an oligarchy. And the US is moving in some strange directions, but these examples aren't necessarily correct comparisons. The Patriot Act and things like the recent FISA debacle are examples of the government moving in some anti-democracy anti-"by the people, for the people" directions, but those have nothign to do with communism. The recent government bail-out, however, IS a good example of moving away from capitalism. But don't confuse government system with economic system.
