What is the average safe''maximum'' high mw for the 803t diode and the 6x diode for say 10- 20 second burn times to get it as hot and bright as I can for my PS1 light gun? I am also using a glass lens.

not an AR coated glass lens for red is it?

PHR the "real safe" is about 60mW
6x about 150mW

The highest ever sustained for a PHR? Over 300mW! The highest reliably sustained? Less than half that much. The highest "safely" sustained? 60mW. I've got mine at 118mW...right where I want it.

I have a pen 803t running at 177ma and putting out 185mW with an axiz acrylic. I havent tried this setup with any others yet, but will be doing so in the near future.

It was an experimental setup with a boost circuit that was a DIY tutored by IgorT. I use it every day for 15mins total. I found a way to get steady use is to point it at the ceiling as I walk through the dark as a room illuminator. I marked the date and specs on the tail of it, so I could keep track of its performance.

I made it in Nov. of 08, and will soon be posting a thread for it entitled 'my favorite 803'. I am still shocked that it works and still tests on my meter as 185mW with fresh batteries.

Its the toughest 803 ive had yet. It was and still is a high efficiency diode, only got 5 like this one out of 50 sleds. But there is no way I would even consider trying for 300mW, Dave is still the man for pushing one that far. I think id cry if I killed my favorite. :'(

What has been said about the higher outputs being brighter, and slightly higher in nm, seem consistant with this one. I also have another that is wired into my array project that you can barely see, but reads 120mW. I think someone else also had a diode sometime back which was similar. I want to see if I can guestimate its wavelength by comparing the readings of a lasercheck and laserbee LPM's. But its definately a strange one and dim to the eye..

185mW out of a PHR! You sir, are a fiend. A LUCKY fiend! ;)

Nice night photo, I'm jealous cause my Cannon A540 is blind to 405nM. :(

I was using a Panasonic cam before which always showed the pics in more blue than anything. The new camera I got is a cybershot s-750, which I fried the CCD the first day of use.

I ordered another of these but non working off ebay for 10$ and replaced the CCD with no problems.

This camera pics up the violet colour much better and is a fairly cheap camera in price for a 7.2mp. The only problem with it being more sensative to 405nm seem to also dicatate how sensative the CCD is to damage :-/

As far as the PHR diodes go, any diodes I get that will put out more mW than mA in, will be going into pens and run at 177mA. The interesting thing is that if the nm value climbs at higher outputs, I think id take a PHR over a 6x at the same mW.

The 6x has its qualities, but I am still impressed by the PHR's performance.

BTW, anybody remember the first guy here to discover that the PHR's were able to put out such a high mW?

We should name a a day after him on the date he dicovered this :D
