Looks like it will be a 405nm laser. (purple NOT blue)

Otherwise I don't see why not. EBay sells cheaper 405 pointers some ranging 75mw+

Yep. It will be purple and 50mw is not uncommon even for the 5mw ones.

You can find the same on ebay for under $10. I bought one for under $4 once.

i expect that will be around 50mw, iv got a few "<1mw" 405nm black pointers that iv bought off ebay for £4.85 that are 60mw+.... i think it is always worth trying "cheap" lasers because the majority of the time they are higher power than they say they are (not always). and at $13 it wont really matter if its not. put this item number into ebay 170746942936, £4.85 "1mw" 405nm black slim laser pointer (more like 75mw!) iv had four and they are all around 75mw. you will be happy with them definatley, they burn when focused and sting your skin unfocused..... enjoy :)

What did you use to measure them....

iv got a powerchecked 70mw 405nm from odicforce, i used that to compare. For an experiment i just put one on my tripod then went 18ft down the beam and focused it into a point with a little 15mil double convex lens and it burns wood, white plastic on a light switch, and lights matches. i think there pretty good for £4.85. im going to buy a focasable host (sd laser) off jon at odicforce and put one of these cheap "<1mw" 405nm in it... if you have a power meter, get one and test it, id be interested to see exactly what they are putting out. cheers Ben...

An optimist would say the glass is half full when a normal person would say its half empty.

Point is for most people its easier to describe it as purple/violet rather than spectral violet IMO.
