I couldn't find any information on this drive as far diode extraction goes so am going to post my experience with this drive.

Sold as buffalo brand but drive is made by Panasonic, model # SW-5584 for Panasonic, and BR-816FBS for buffalo. it is 8x BR burning drive.

I have some pics but they're terrible quality because all i have is an Iphone, no real camera. I am also pretty new at lasers so excuse my lack of knowledge.

I couldn't determine what the DVD diode was or where it was, I'm positive I have found the Blu-Ray Diode but i guess the DVD diode was not a normal diode. The Drive is capable of 16x DVD burning but I'm not too concerned about that, didn't buy the drive for the DVD diode.

More to come soon, if the pinout on the diode looks the same configuration as other blu-ray diode I'm going to hook it up to a homemade DDL driver, thats the only driver I have.

UPDATE:Got one diode pressed in aixiz and pushed to 200mA, didnt have a lens installed because I'm waiting to get AR coated lens from larryDFW. Light was beautiful, now i need to get installed in one of my labby heatsinks and get a better pot, my pot was raising the current too fast, got scared. Dont have a power meter that measures 405nm light but I'm just going to stare into the laser with one eye and when I am bleeding from the eye I know I have hit 350mW, JK.

Uhh no offense but some more detailed pics would be appreciated. I'm shocked you found a good diode in there but NOT suprised taht the red is the odd flat one. Panasonic is NOTORIOUS for those crap diodes.

I however am eager to see if this has the same diode that all the other 8x sleds have....

Haha

Maybe if I knew you a little better LOL.
I am going to be meeting up with LarryDFW and I think he has a power meter because he deals with all that lens stuff, so I may try and arrange a way for one of these diodes to be metered. I would like to compare the results with the Pioneer 8x tests. I do think this diode will be worse or the same because this was one of the first 8x drives.

Any new 8X BR diode is good for testing purposes...
and to post photo's for information.

Panasonic was one of the first companies to bring out 8X BR recordable discs.
They also have a good reputation in BluRay players.

I have a ScienTech meter available.

I'll bring you several Hi-Power lenses when we meet up.

I got mine for very cheap

I picked mine up for under 200 but I couldn't find a good price on them looking other places. All other sites had them for around 250-300.

yah, 15 rep is quite a bit bro, i'd trust him. theres enough people here that know him... i doubt he'd banish himself from LPF by stealing one 8x diode lol. he's a good dude, you can trust him.

Yeah he is a good dude (despite the fact that he won't revert back to his awesome old avatar)

hmm

I wasn't saying he isn't trustworthy, I just don't send things to people I don't know.
Beside LarryDFW is going to test one for me, he lives in my area so i don't have to worry about shipping.
Got it pushed to 350mA, thats as high as i could get it with the voltage I had but i don't think I am going to go any higher that 300mA-325mA, Now i just need to get one metered.
