Hey all,

I have some questions,

I live in the Netherlands in Europe, and I saw a video/tut from someone who made a sort of star trek kinda weapon with a violet laser,

I want to build something like that to ,

so my questions,

1. Is there a difference between Blue-Ray Lasers and Violet lasers, so is a Blue-Ray laser Violet too?

I want to pop balloons, but also want to be able to burn paper (If that's even possible :p) or that sort of things

2. Is it possible to burn/kill (little) insects with it? (don't get me wrong :p I had an idea to build a variant on the electric whisk but then with a Laser :p)

3. What kind of laser Diode and other "Ingridients" do I need to build a working laser ?

4. What do they mean with for example 405nm? and what difference does the amount of watt make?

and last but not least,

5. Where can I buy a Laser somewhere in The Netherlands, Europe, or do the membersellers ship to Europe too ??

well I'm sorry for all those questions, :p

I'm also new here so I'm sorry if I asked or said something that's not allowed.

Thanks In Advance

Greetings:
Thursten

Ok, lots of reasonable questions, born out of curiosity there but you can probably answer a few fairly well yourself if you check out the links in my sig and do a little searching around using the keywords in my guide.

To answer two of your questions -

Bluray,blue/violet, violet, 405nm... all Bluray! All 405nm! All same!

Yes, I can ship to Europe as I'm in the UK.

As for the Star Trek Phaser. Is this the one?

Don't forget to introduce yourself in the, "Welcome", section, read the, "Rules and Stickies", and do plenty of other reading and searching. LPF helps those that help themselves!

PM me if you want to discuss diodes but I'd suggest doing some reading first so you know what you're asking for.

Welcome to LPF! Enjoy your stay.

Hey Morgan,

Thanks for your answers =D

yes that's the tutorial I meant, :p

and I want to build a simliar thing and I read the tut once again and saw some info about the diode used, and researched ,

I noticed (and correct me if I'm wrong) that I could use a laser diode from the PS3 but is that a strong enough one ?

do you have blue ray diodes for sale ??? and lences ?? (for a reasonable price since I don't have alot money atm :p)

thanks in Advance

EDIT:
I read the I want to build.. thread, and I guess I also need a Driver
so actually I need a heatsink, lense, Driver, and a very powerful Blueray/Violet Laser Diode :D
(Blue looks very awesome too :D)

Thursten

Ps. I will introduce myself later on since it's already 11:30PM over here :p

welcome Thursten...just as another alternative, I've dealt with ::: www.ledshoppe.com ::: The Greatest Online LED Shoppe Worldwide in the past and have been really happy with their service and products. Since I didn't need a super high quality top of the line laser (with a higher price tag), yet I still wanted something that legitimately rated at or above the registered power (and had good user feedback on this forum), I decided to go with the 50mW greenie (silver barrel) for $24.99. I was and still am very happy with the purchase. So happy, I bought a second one (as a backup) as well as a keychain 20 mW version and another blueviolet 50 mW for the insane low price of $24.00 (they recently began selling the blue-violet ones due to popular demand).

Only thing to note about the phaser build is that playmates phaser is just a wee bit hard to find these days. At least it was for me. However diamond select makes a type 2 phaser that's actually a lot better of a replica. I have one here on my desk but I haven't torn into it yet. Since the type 1 section is detachable though on it, it means the build will be more challenging, since there's not as much room in it. But I still plan to try a 445 build in one anyway.
