No Problem... no offence taken...
some of us will take the chance to purchase a Laser just to see
if it is up to specs stated..
Others will expect us to do it for them...
The best way to find out if a Laser is up to spec... is to do what
I do.... buy it and test it and report it right here on the Forum...

Is there anywhere I can test a laser without buying a meter? It seems like something a local lab would have in their posession...

@ Woodofcville...
Some universities may have a Laser Lab...
I've found that Companies that have Laser Power Meters
are not too willing to let strangers use their LPMs..

That is one of the reasons we decided to Design and Manufacture
our own affordable LPMs and make them available to the average
Laser hobbyist and experimenter..

@ blue lasers...
You would need a spacer because you could only use 1 battery..
and even then... a single fully charged 10440 battery outputs
4.2 Volts which is higher than the driver needs...
Guess it needs to be tested...

could you try with one 10440 battery?

Do a LPF search on LPMs--if you are really serious about getting into lasers you should have the right eye protection and a Laserbee or Kenometer. You may find cheaper buys on eekbay but it will most likely be a waste of $- they are usually only part of a LPM or do not work. Look into Jerry's new&improved sensor or if on an even tighter budget make a crude one from am IR thermometer til you can upgrade. Keep checking the for sale section but the good one always go fast--and if you get a good one and later down the road don't need it- they re-sell easily. To Laserbee---Jerry to the rescue again- helping out the 'boobs'--thanks

Ya, thanks. I have correct eye protection vs. Blue-green. I'm looking into buying a meter but I like lasers, I'd almost rather trust that it's working correctly and buy a new laser instead of a meter. But it seems like a necessity for a serious laser person.. So I may have to purchase a meter.

-thanks for the help.

good to hear- IMO protecting your eyes comes first--I am embarrased to admit that I had 20+ lasers before even the crudest LPM. You have tons of time(at your age) but at least put it on next years Xmas want list, if you lose interest in lasers(does not happen very often-addicting) selling will never be a problem- especially a Laserbee or Kenometer...........mm<(*U*)>mm......or without eye protection....mm<(*U')>mm...

Got my two today.

I'm using an LPM-1 so the results are skewed because they don't have a 405 NM setting.

Even so, using the 473 nm setting, I'm still seeing a 19-23 mw from them. Roughly that translates to over 40 mw on the 405 nm. I'll have a couple control 405 nm lasers to verify this with in a few days. But again, the two I got are WAY over spec.

Poor us.

@lasersbee -- Those four other ones you ordered, have you received them yet? If so, are they also outputting well over spec?

Thanks,

I just ordered one also. I think I'm just going to rip it apart and use the diode and driver to make one of those blu-ray/uranium marble lights that Jayrob showed us. Although I wonder how long this diode would last under long run times.

Use your time machine to undo the ebay sale- spend a little more and build one with PHRw/driver from a LPF seller who will meter 4 you it before you get it.-approx. 100mWs
