I joined this forum because the people her seem to be very experienced, I decided to make lasers my new hobby.
Hacking the living hell out of my phone was getting a little boring.
Anyway I saw a kipkay video about a laser lighter and wanted to try it out for my self.
Now Im not completely new to lasers I owned A green 200mw laser and destroyed countless red diode as I used to play around with the cheap red lasers as a kid I learn just how fragile they are.
Kipkays video while entertaining was lacking so much information as well as safety tips so that's why Im here.
Questions:
1st diode witch one should I get?
2nd Driver can I make one or should I buy one?
3rd module I need one that is small and well still be good enough to light a match

I don't had much electrical skills but I am more than willing to
learn. Any help that I can get well be greatly appreciated
Ps sorry about the bad grammar and what not its 4:40 Im tired and need sleep lol

1. Depend what color you like, and how much you want to spend.
2. Sure you can build one. There are many based on the LMXXX chip. Depends on battery current. If you want one battery its best to use a boost driver. There are a few different types. Some cheap, some moderately priced.
3. Generally we use AixiZ modules for 5.6 can builds.

to the Forum....
Don't forget to read the FAQs...the Stickies
and the Forum Rules..

If your are planning to buy anything on the
Forum.... PLEASE read this first...

6 Steps To Prevent You From Getting Scammed

If you have no electrical/electronic experience then the
logical thing to do is buy a Laser Diode already Pressed
into a Module...
I would also suggest buying a pre-built and current set
Laser Diode Driver...
In addition... there are many kits available by members...
Just do some research in the Tutorials a Buy/Sell/Trade
sections...

Then..... Most IMPORTANT of all... get your self a good pair
of Laser Safety Goggles fir the wavelength of Laser you
will build.....

Enjoy your stay...

Thanks for the info, seems to me that most of the info is already on the forums. I guess I have to do a little more reading before I can safely start playing around with more powerful lasers.
My goal is to build a laser burner that well be able to light a cig or a match with out having to somehow the laser point directly to the face. It well be housed in a zippo lighter well post pictures maybe someone well help me improve on design

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Whatever you do, please remember safety above all else. If you are talking about building a laser to light a cigerette, please understand that it's never a good idea to put a powerful (or even not so powerful) laser near your face.

There is plenty of good information here including safety, so please read abunch before you dive too far into this and accidentally hurt yourself.

Hi Choi!
The A140 1000 mW laser diode would be sure to light a match and cigerette. The only problem is that a laser module won't fit in a bic lighter like kipkay did. I know kipkay says to buy the parts off of laserdiy.com, but DO NOT go there. They never ship it, they just take your money. I had to learn the hard way about laserdiy.com when I bought their "Blue Laser Diode Driver" for $24.99 USD. A 12 mm laser module just won't fit in that tiny bic lighter. If you do end up doing with project, make sure and wear laser protection glasses. I hope this helped and good luck with your project:).

I Don't Know How smart Lighting a Cigarette is. You would have to puff on it to help it light and would need to ware goggles.

The Only Reason People do that is to impress others and I'm 100% sure they all aren't wearing goggles either..
