I have a very odd bluray

I received my psxboy bluray a couple of days ago. I hooked the diode up to about 35ma and it did all the fluorescing tricks that blurays do but it did not burn at all. A couple of days later I decided to play with the current a bit. at 50ma, still no burning (what gives) and the voltage across the diode was 4.5v. So i kept pushing. Only at about 70 ma does it start to lightly smoke tape and sting skin a bit. Its now at 80ma and with the volts across the diode at 5v. I am fairly sure the 80ma is an accurate reading because I measured it with 1 ohm resistor in series and then i removed the diode and read the amps directly. Its had about 15 mins at 80ma and 15 mins at all the other ma i tried.

Is there something wrong with my diode?

You may have pushed it too far. 80 mA is a bit much. I popped a balloon and lit a match at 8" focused real small - almost a pinpoint. That was at 55 mA. It was an experiment to see if I could do it and I didn't expect the diode to last too long -- It didn't -- RIP :(

Welcome to the club. I've burned a lot of LD's to see how far they will go.
The ps3's have to be focused carefully and then won't last long. I run mine at ~40 mA and am happy with 11 mW.

What power do you think my half crippled bluray is putting out if it is stinging skin and smoking tape slowly. I would try to light a match but I seem to have found an unlightable batch, even with my dvd red.

I have two diodes from GB3, using the same boost driver and same battery one runs at 40~42mA and one runs at 62mA and then goes up to 80mA (I don't control the current, the diode decides how much current it takes). Is it possible that the PS3 using different diodes.

What do you mean you don't control the current and the diode decides?
I use a boost driver to drive the diode at 4.65v and ~40mA. Using the same battery and driver, the "normal" diode is running at ~40mA and the odd one running at 65~80mA.
