As the title states I am new and this is my first official post. I was wondering if anyone could help in guiding me towards a violet laser that would be in an adjustable housing as a weapon sight that is as strong a laser as possible (on the verge of burning) yet makes the best point of violet lasers. 405nm or I suppose 445nm is the other purple. Take it easy on me as I am learning and I am interested in purple although I realize green or IR for my night vision is best. I plan on having all three but i am interested in this one first. Thanks in advance for any help or insight. Money is no object on this laser so lets just hear it all. This is going on my AR so keep that in mind. Adjustment accuracy and focus ability.

To clarify, I am after 405nm (violet). We will keep the discussion based towards that.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

First off all you should know that 405nm is the least visible of all visible laser colors, meaning that you would need a lot of power to be able to make a decent gun sight. I would recommend searching on fleabay for some laser gun sights. Green would be your best choice as it is the most visible color. If you really rather want a bleuish laser I would go for the 445nm(blue, not purple) but I haven't seen any 445nm gun sights yet.

I realize the violet is the least bright. I am interested in a laser that is strong enough but wont burn. Looking for violet because I am absoluteky amazed by the color and that would look tits at night coming off my AR. Yes I know it sounds noobish....but im a sucker for the violet. I plan on getting a green laser as well. I know the green is best for the application but im looking to bend the rules, find, or build a laser for my weapon. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks for the input.

You would have to build it yourself then, you can get a PHR diode (HERE). It should give you around 100mW, which won't be very spectacular but it would probably do (I don't own any 405nm high power lasers atm so I don't know how bright it will be). You can also go for a SOJ6 (much higher power) diode (HERE) but they are very sensitive and I don't know if they will last on a gun. The housing and mounting on the gun is up to you!

I'm still learning myself, but i think it might be very difficult to get a 405nm thats visible and does not burn. I also like the 405s, mainly for their ability to cause fluoresence.

Just a thought, is it the spot, or beam visibility you want? If you just want the spot to be visible, get one of the pointers from HERE.

The one I got from there is 46mW, won't burn (unless you use a magnifier), but the dot is very bright.
If the beam is what you want, it will burn, at least in close range, in order to be visible.

I did some business with a friend who was in the same dilemma you're in. He also had an AR semi-auto rifle. I advised him to use the 445nm instead of the 405nm. Just like you, he was dead set on the 405nm, & wanted nothing to do with the 445nm. Well, I arranged for him to use my 100mW 405 & also my 500mW 445. He found that
looking at the 100 mW 405nm 'spot' through the weapons scope, hisnight vision was ruined due to the bbrightness of the spot. Then he tried my 500mW 445nm laser. Even though it was 5X more powerful the 'spot' was not as bright & didn't ruin his night vision. He decided to buy a 445nm laser in a C-6 host & is VERY HAPPY withthe choice he decided on. Just a true story that happened to fit your situation............... rob

if you are looking for a rifle sight then you may want to look at something like THIS. alright hear me out, since you are after a visible beam this is my thought. get a mount like what i linked that works with a 501B host. then you can contact Blord or build your own 501b laser. Blord sells them in 445nm from about 1-2W+ but im sure he could build you a less powerful one. now you can use the pressure switch to turn the laser on when needed and leave it off when not (sounds like thats what you wanted). now for a 445 at that power it ill burn stuff if focused properly. i have a 1.5W 445 and just today actually, i accidentally moved the beam across my roommates black mini fridge in the living room and it burned all the paint off where the dot crossed. looks like i took a key and scratched all the paint off in a nice line :)

now with that being said, you could always build a 405 in the 501b host and get the violet you are after but would still work on your AR. you'd need around 500mW of 405 to be visible at night

that link was just one option, they also have some for weaver rails and other options if you are interested.

I like 405nm due to it can burn very well. But many people say the diode die very easily.

It is not pricey to buy from the member here, you can go to B/T/S to find out which one

you like. Good luck.
