127ma is what it was driven at initially.

Did i write "127" on the underside of your driver? If not, your initial current was 124-125.. If yes, your current at the moment is 146mA.

Alright, thanks everyone for your input. I think I'll drive mine at 125mA and see how it goes from there. I can't wait to build mine, I've never seen a Blu-Ray in person before!

Good luck, buddy! ;)

You still enjoy it though, don't you? Its cool to know that you built that laser with your own two hands :)

That's true. I guess I just got spoiled with power, so it all sort of lost it's meaning.

Just push the diode as high as you can and when it dies out you can start all over again and have some more fun ;)

I finished my DDL driver today and hooked up my first PHR803T diode to 105ma- until the lead from the laser diode disconnected to the driver and flashed a big horrible death. :( :( :(

#1 38 re-did it to --78ma
#2 78 first dyi a keeper for sure
#3 86 sold to iewed
#4 86 warranty to iewed
#5 100 sold to friend at work
#6 120 a monster a keeper for sure in a host that i got from Ace82 -Free-bee thanks Ace
#6b left in car diode came loose from solder -blew diode replaced diode in unit still 120 ma
#7 ????????? ;D as soon as Kenoms  kryton get here its on baby   not free  :p but worth it I'm sure

so far two of these 803-t's have went to a better place 'poof' my fault im sure .especially if i had used them for what they were intended for :p :p

Nice! I wish I could say the same.. :'(. My diode window shattered during the shipping process and I was able to manage pulling all of the pieces of glass out. I hooked it up to the driver, It gave off some light, then slowly faded into nothing. Gotta make some more cash before I buy another.

Also, does anyone have a reccomendation on what kind of a duty cycle I should be using while driving one of these at 125mA with one of jay's heatsinks?

I plan to drive it at 110mA, with an adjustable micro drive. I'm also going to order an unadjustable at 100mA to make and sell it to a friend, mainly so if they take it apart and want more power, they can't, so less risk of frying it. :p

mines going strong at 150ma with a ddl style driver inside the aixiz module and no heat sink. i can run it for around 2minutes before it starts to warm up. did you get the other package i sent you yet?

nvm i just checked the tracking. its still in montgomery. its left montgomery on its way to you.

I have never had much fun with numbers, so even something as simple Ohm's law gives me grief.

If I short out the pot on my 141ma rkcstr, will that give me 282ma?

i got bored for a while since i couldnt sleep last night and built one around 175ma. ill have to find a good host and get a heatsink for it b/c it heats up FAST. i got it in a red aixiz heatsink from jayrob atm so i can still play with it tho. :D

Gonna put mine togeather tomorrow hopefully. If I get it done before work I'm sure to be the talk of the day ;D. Only problem is that its been awhile since I've used that soldering iron and I turned it on today and it seems to have shorted itself out or something, it doesn't wanna heat up. So I am gonna attempt to use a 10W woodburning pen, it should work plus it has some of the tiniest style tips you could imagine (Perfect for diode pins). Hopefully it all works out and I will have built my first Blu-Ray. Oh and I have one question to ask just out of plain curiosity(Spelling?), if an rkcstr driver was powered up for a very short time without a load, would it kill the driver or would it just build up a small charge?

i would spend the 10$ and go to radio shack and buy another 12-15w iron personally. dunno anything about wood burning irons tho. not sure if it would damage the driver but you should always discharge the capacitors before hooking up an ld.
