Hello, I cannot find the diode in the xbox 360 drive I opend it up and took the laser holding part out and pulled all that apart to little tiny bits and found one chunk of thing that i can't pull apart any more because the screw is stripped or something! I'm pretty sure it's in there but if I do find it what should I use for it  like batterys, holding thing (I forget what it called), stuff like that.

The xbox 360 drive doesn't contain a useful diode. The HD DVD add-on that was sold in addition to the Xbox 360 is what we use around here. That diode has been called the 360 diode in the passed or more commonly now as a PHR. You may have been confused by some older posts referring to the diode as the 360 diode but in fact it doesn't come from the console.

O.k. So you do have the correct drive then right? The PHR 803T? If so, a fellow member here named Styropyro made a really good how to vid using that sled's diode. His vid will help you identify the diode and show how to hook it up and power it properly.

YouTube - DIY: How to build A Burning Blue/Violet Laser

Again this is StyroPyro's vid, not mine, so all thanks are to him.

theres gross black plasticy junk surrounding the one i have tho :(

Should I just buy the thing? I think it would be easyer and its probibly not that expensive, I'm not sure tho what site should I use? i don't know any of them exept DX and they only sell already made lasers...

If by "buy the thing" you mean buy a PHR diode, you can do so on this forum, modwerx, hightechdealz, should also have PHR 803T's. About $20.00 installed in an aixiz module.

Whats with the black plastic, i don't ever recall any black plastic like that on any PHR i've taken apart. Are you positive that thats not the laser from the consoles drive?

he should have watched the vid prior to his attempt but ohh well.... let's hope for the best now.

it still sounds like he's using the xbox 360's internal DVD drive.

The external HD-DVD addon drive either contains a PHR-803T sled or a BD-8011 (I think) sled.. Both sleds are made of an aluminum/magnesium alloy, neither are made of black plastic. The internal drive in an xbox is made of black plastic and it only contains low powered red/ir diodes.

XinwxHleak: Ok sorry for being presumptuous. Perhaps search for a micro screwdriver on eBay?

Yeah, thats what i was trying to get at, the black plastic has been leading me to believe its from the 360's drive, not the HD DVD's drive.

Batteries are the least of your concern.. Do you have an aixiz module, do you have a current regulator? It sounds like you haven't read anything at all about how lasers work and how to build them.. Hooking a diode directly up to batteries usually kills it instantly.. Do you have culmination optics? If you don't, your laser is basically just a purple light, you can't focus it to a beam or burn anything.

I suggest you do a lot of reading before you go any further with your project. Here's a start: http://laserpointerforums.com/f36/basic-faqs-read-before-posting-38275.html

I never understood why people expect they can pick up a hobby and just bumble their way into making a laser that works.. It's like saying "I want to build a car, and I know cars use gasoline to run and they have a seat you can sit in, so if I douse this chair in gasoline I've got a car, right?" Pick up the basics and fundamentals before you dive in or you're just going to waste a bunch of money and possibly hurt yourself.
