Try the search button. Go for 532nm if youre looking for beam visibility.

You are going to need at least 50mW to do the terrible things to living creatures, you asked about.
Just remember, god is watching and he might be a giant ant!

Ehm ..... first, a blu-ray pointer, is really difficolt that you can find any of them that make a visible beam in daylight ..... i can imagine that also with a 12X at 600mW, it can be difficult to obtain this, cause 405nm is a very poorly visible wavelenght .....

Second, also a PHR set at 100mW can burn, if properly focused (anyway, i don't see what a poor ant may have done you, for want to burn them with a laser :p) .....

Anyway, be cautious about reflections ..... basically, any laser over 5mW is dangerous for the eyes, both for direct and indirect exposition, and a 50 or 100mW laser, can easily blind you or damage permanently your retina, also from a casual reflection on a shining surface, BEFORE that you realize it ..... that means, once you notice that your eye is damaged, there's nothing more that you can do for repair it .....

Don't be dissapointed when that laser won't burn ants or have a visible beam in daylight, because it won't. However, it will be very impressive at night.

if your looking for a some what visable laser that kinda cheap, go for a PHR build. diodes are about 10-20 dollars *depends who you buy it from* I got mine for $15 housed from Dave. They are blu-ray and can burn ants. its around 80-100 mws at 100-120mA. I'll leave the rest up to you.

i think im deciding to go with this one.. ordering next week witth post review for anyone interested. :) thanks for the posts +help

Optotronics Product Details
That is a very nice laser. It will probably be overspec. by 1.5-2X. You will be amazed by how bright it is in the dark.
As others have stated, it won't burn, but you can always buy a 100mW 405nm for burning and use the 532nm for WOW'ing your friends.
Good choice, Great "First" laser!
