ummmm... I'm just a simple low-post-count old-timer, but it looks to me like that "x" really is a "+"... or maybe it doesn't matter because either way, it could simply be a result of auto-testing in manufacture, and mean "this one can be pushed" or something like that.

The reason i thought it was a plus sign was the angle of the picture. After looking at it from the right angle it does look like an x.

I believe it's simply a sign that this diode is from another manufacturer, but most likelly of the same power rating as the 8x's.

Dave: You won't believe it, but the second Groove driver i put together actually works, and i tested it with two pots (Imax and Iadj), and it seems to be working as desired!
Now i just need to figure out the optimal pot values for best adjustability, thermal epoxy the driver to a heatsink, and make a simple holder for the two pots.

If it turns out to be stable enough, i'm sending it to you. :yh:
It goes down to just under 20mA, so you will be able to test every diode from Ith up. ;)

I bought one of these drives and it arrived today. I haven't taken it apart yet, but I do plan on doing so for the laser diode. Is there any way I can help with the research of this drive? (I.E., by taking pictures)

We don't have pictures of harvesting the sled yet

You could help by sharing the (exact) current setting and the power measurement, to give us a further comparison to 8x's efficiency....

Like i said, even if it's just one data point, it still allows a comparison, and would help us see if the low efficiency of the first tested one was just a random fluke, or if they actually form their own lower efficiency group.

My LG BH10LS30 10x diode is putting out 543mW's, flex drive set @385mA and a 405-g-1 glass lense. I love this laser !

543mW!!! Now I definitely can't wait to get my 10x going! I have harvested the diode but I have no more Aixiz modules!!! My friend's got some spares but I won't be able to get with him until Wednesday. My flex drive is slightly older being a version 4 but I don't think there were any huge changes from version 4 to 5.

Alright, the 10x is installed in my host and burning wonderfully! I will definitely have to get over to Rossco's house to measure the power ASAP! With the laser focused to infinity it will sting my skin immediately from 6 to 8 inches away! It burns through paper like there's no tomorrow and actaully get the paper hot enough that it keeps burning even after the laser is shut off. I got to see a nice glowing ring spread out from where the laser dot hit. I let it grow to about 2 inches in diameter before stomping it out. I'm going to take a wild guess that the laser is putting out ~430mW. Hopefully I'll know for sure tomorrow. I'm definitely going to have to get a 3.7v 10440 to replace the two Energizer lithiums powering the laser right now. I will have to build a spacer to make up for the missing battery but that won't be hard at all. A proper length and diameter bolt wrapped with some tape should do.

Also, I would like to add that this diode appears to swing toward the <405nm range as the beam is visible even with lights on.

All Blu-Ray diodes are 405nm! So I don't know what your trying to say! Where else would it swing?lol

430mW's for a 10x? What is the mA set @ ? My 8x's put out 450mW's your
10x should be pushing a little more then 430mW's .
let us know how many mW's it is when you get a chance .

I meant to say greater than 405nm... used the wrong >/< symbol... lol I'm just making a guess from Dave's numbers that he posted so it could be a lot more than 430mW. I'm currently running it at 350mA.

Question: has anyone tried wiring two 3.6v batteries in parallel to power a pointer? Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? The wiring would be cumbersome in a pen style pointer and the battery ends would have to be insulated from each other but I guess it could be done.

Tested the pointer out at my favorite club... the beam going through the smoke filled air was brilliant! It was almost as bright as the greenies that the managers were playing with! Of course they were only using 50-100mW greenies compared to the estimated (yep, still havent had a chance to meter it yet) 400mW+ violet I had. One manager actually lit his cigarette and the DJ's cigarette with my pointer! I am quite pleased with the power of this laser!!! My next endeavor will be a 12x at maybe 400mA. I'd go higher but I'm trying to stay in 'safe' currents that will give me longer life.

Hey Diesel I finally got my 10x measured... although I was trying to hold the laser steady by hand while pointing it at the power meter and as a result the read-out kept jumping up and down. Anywho, I'm calling my 10x at 485mW with a v4 flex drive set to 350mA. The meter actually climbed to 498mW at one point but I couldn't get back to that reading. So officially it is as follows:

LG 10x BDR diode
FlexDrive v4 @ 350mA
405-G-1 lens
485mW Output
(2x) Energizer Lithium Batteries :(
Quest UV Leak Detector host

On a side-note: this pointer sucks the life out of Energizer Lithium batteries like there's no tomorrow. A brand new set only lasts about 1 hour (total on time) before having to be replaced.

Oh, just in case anyone was wondering, the focus ring is actually inside of the upper host housing. This is because the Aixiz module had some bad threads which made the lens almost impossible to turn so I focused it to inifinity the best I could and left it at that. It gives the laser a really clean look though :)

I wanted to do beam shots but I have no way generate smoke or fog right now other than going to the strip club and firing the laser in there. I wish they would let me photograph the laser bouncing off the mirror ball as that looks really impressive!

Nice to have you on the forum :) If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the 10X drive?

I would not be too sure about that but the WH10LS30K For me For my Computer blu-ray needs read write. It was about 99.97 Now its 199.99:wtf:price Jack

Hi Cenobite, I'm probably new to you but I spent several years here :D

Are you measuring that 350mA at the diode side, or at the battery? if it's at the battery then if you put 2 batteries in parallel you'd get twice the runtime. But if that's 350mW at the LD then doubling the batteries may increase runtime, but possiibly non-linearly. 2 batteries would not increase output power unless when using only one battery it was being overdrawn...
