Well, Happy Brithday to that blue ray diode. Been around 10 years. Bet it's put quite a few smiles on quite a few people. Including me. :)

Maybe as a birthday wish, it will wish for even more of these new wavelengths we've been seeing for the last few weeks! 505, 475, and now 495nm, what's next. :D

Yeah, that poor little diode doesn't seem to get much use any longer. Not since the X12 and X16 guys came around. I guess in LD terms, 10 years is a lifetime. Now, blow out the candles.

~2009 2010 IIRC I sent diachi, who afaik was still living in Scotland, some info on Leslie in case he wanted to meet him.
not sure what happened.

Wright is a photog who (maybe) had an Xray tech day job and got into doing Xray art.
The pic of the Chambered Nautalis is quite interesting.

Man time flies....
I still have quite a few PHR-803T sleds that still have
the LDs in them. IIRC I also have a box of LD empty
sleds with their optics in the shop somewhere.

I must be a hoarder.....:eek:

I think we ended up chatting, but never met up. Don't think he ever went to any of the UKLEMs I was at or anything and didn't live near Glasgow.

Didn't he have an account on here?

How time flies eh? I remember my first PHR-803T built into an old Romisen 30mW 532nm host.

It'll be my 10 year LPF anniversary next year... Doesn't feel like 10 years...

Leslie's (&Sam's) piece on this diode/sled is for sure MORE info than I will ever need.
BUT still a great read..hope you all were able to load some of his pics.

Dunno about hoarding, i think i have one or two complete sleds with those diodes tucked away as well.

Surely more powerful 405s have come along, but they are still pretty solid laser diodes - single mode, easy to extract, not overly fragile, inexpensive, and running at 200 mW or so.

Only real downside is the wavelength, it's just not very visibly attractive, so i suppose interest in it will fade further, apart from niche applications.

Oh wow, how time just flies!
I remember getting a hold of a PHR-803T and trying my luck.
Didn't know what I was doing (not that I know much more now) :crackup:
But it was fun.

It would be years later that I returned to lasers since things got much easier.
You just pay Rick Trent and you get a powerful laser. :crackup:
