Guess the 405 diode?

got given some free diode which i believe are 405.

the bigger one is a standard 5.6mm 405 diode im unsure of what the smaller one is.

any clues

Could be a small 3.6mm red diode? I had a small 3.6 open can diode from a sled before.

Other than that, not sure sorry :S

Might be worth starting with the pot all the way down, and then gradually working up until you reach the thresh hold current, that way you don't risk killing it and you can see the colour of the diode

You probably already know this though.

^Yeah, power if up like a red, that way you don't risk blowing it with a violet's voltage on the off chance it is a red.

The can looks closed to me. The 3.6mm reds are open cans.

Large one looks like a Sanyo SF-A210 6X to me.

The ribbon cable has the thick trace characteristic of Sanyo sleds.

Small one probably a 3.3mm or 3.6mm Red diode.

Host your photo's somewhere online like "Photobucket." Copy the URL to the picture. Click on the little "picture" icon above. Paste the URL to your photo in the window. Click "OK".

I agree with Larry about the SF-AW210 (~5V @ 175mA). I do not recognize the small closed can

Don't mind me, I just love tiny builds or any tiny electronics for that matter.
Its just begging to be made into the tiniest nano build ever tho. :evil:

Any idea where he/she acquired it from? I would love to get my hands on one of these lil guys.

I'm sure someone here must have tore open an old laptop CD or DVD drive before. What size do you get from them?
Toshiba TS-L802a HD-DVD laptop drive seems to be about $50-65 used.

If you ever get bored of your lil beauty, I might buy her off you!
