got the standalone HD-DVD player (new diode!)

And things sure are interesting! The sled was one that I have never seen before, as was the diode! The diode had no barcode on the back, but it had a number printed on it. It says B0323. Pretty weird.

Onto the testing:

I turned it on at roughly 30mA and to my surprise it was already lasing. This gave me the feeling that the diode would probably be really weak. The spot also had huge yellow blocks around it... which led me to believe I had overheated it (I got the thing REALLY REALLY hot on accident.. long story) so Anyway I begin adding current. At 60mA it was doing about 45mW. Still had yellow blocks. SO I decided to go straight to 80mA, 70mW with yellow blocks. At 90mA I noticed the blocks were fading away, and it was doing 85mW. Up to 100! At 100mA it's doing close to 100mW and the yellow blocks are gone. This is as far as I have gotten, but I'm still going!

Update: 110mW @ 110mA

Update again: 120mW @ 120mA  this thing just keeps going!

Still going!: 131mW @ 129.8mA

Wow... I'm really suprised at how solid this diode is so far... 140mW @ 140mA

Seems like 150 was as high as she wanted to go. at about 155mA the output dropped down to 25mW. Really weird because its not dead... the dot doesn't even look weird, it just dropped in power.

Actually it still does about 40mW at 120mA  ;D

So... it looks like these may be on par with the PHR diodes. They seem to be much more linear, though I've only tested this one diode. These can be found on ebay for arounf $20. I got this one for 15 bucks. So, pick one up, turn it to 110mA and enjoy 110mW of blu-ray!!

Oh yeah, this was all done with an aixiz acrylic.

Now all we need to know is which auctions are reserved for which members on this forum, we don't want bidding wars against each other.

wow, not a bad deal...15 bucks , I miss living in the us...

I saw a toshiba 802a (the 803t one forgot the name)...go for 35pounds on ebay.co.uk...while geeks had it for 18 bucks...

Did you order yourself a GGC yet? That will also be interesting hehehe

Well . . .110mW isn't the same as the capabilities of the 803T. 110mW is nice, but it's not 160mW. You can most definitely see a difference between 110mW and 160mW
