I just purchased one of these, and was wondering if my LM317 laser driver could hack it with a 9 volt battery to run it.

Yes I know. ;)

I have built lasers before like the phr-803t and the lpc-815 of which I am still using, but I have never used a blu-ray sled before.

A phr-803t is a blu-ray sled ;)

You must first publicly renounce all of kipkay's teachings. Then, and only then, will you be ready to begin your journey down the path of enlightenment.

you can't use 9V batteries cuz they are extremely low current capable!!!
with LM317 you need to use 3x lithium batteries to drive the 6V for bluray doide and way to much power is wasted as heat.

not a good choice for a driver!

how come you have built PHR-803t and you didn't know it was bluray and asking question you should have already known the answer to?

i think you might be lying about this :D just saying ;)

Sorry I meant to say blu-ray BURNER sled. :D and no I am not lying, I can show you a picture of my laser and its insides. BTW I tried putting in new lithium CR2 (X3) batteries, but the cuuret seamed to jump up, and killed my PHR :cryyy: So I ordered a PHR-805T laser diode along with my ggw-h20l.

if you have set the current properly it can't jump... and again LM317 is not the best option... try flex drive, it requires only one li-ion batteries as it is a boost driver !
