Alright, just got my laser today. Incredibly fast shipping from the UK to US, California (5 days total.) I open it up, and pop in the batteries. To say it lightly, I was shocked. The violet dot is just so mysterious. And as everybody has said, hard to focus on, which creates a weird sensation to the eyes.

I was at work when I got it, so during the whole day I was just randomly shining it around. The fluorescence effect is truly a sight to see, simply amazing. A orange high-lighter glows so bright, I almost felt as if it was hurting my eyes. And the blue that white paper emits is very neat looking.

Here are a few specs just for the hell of it.

Type: Pen-style, traditional size.

Mode operating in: Oval shaped (dunno the TEM #) and sometimes TEM00

Measured mW output via Coherent lasercheck: 25mW peak 22mW low. Also been using it the whole day, so on fresh batteries its possibly higher.

Frequency: Continuous (CW)

Batteries: Lithium ion 3.7v 350mAh type 10430, rechargeable. Also type 10440 3.6v 300mAh work as well.

Focusable: Not that I can tell. the top screws off, but its just a barrel that sticks out. And cannot be turned.

Brightness: On a wall, non-fluorescing, it appears to be as bright as a 5mW or less red. When fluorescing, appears to be its actual output. About 25mW.

Looks: You know, its not that bad looking. Its a matte black body with a silver top, clip, and battery cover. Matches quite well.

Feel: Feels sturdy, just like any other pen-style laser. Could probably drop and be ok...but nobody wants to do that.

Negatives: There is some beam-splatter. But not much. Button is a tad loose and jingly, and I would personally prefer a TEM00.

Price: $245 USD, free shipping.

Here is where I got it.

some open shutter pics, good comparison of fluorescing on white and non-against the walls

Another open shutter one. Kinda neat how it 'charges' the white shirt below it.

Good show of how bright it is. fluorescing on white

I doubt it, the dot is pretty big coming out of the aperture, and only seems to get bigger. If I could manually focus it, I'm sure it could easily.

Thanks, here's a few more neat ones.

This one is shot inside a empty Goldfish box (ya know, crackers) and the broken pieces seem to almost illuminate a whitish color. I am bouncing the laser off the side of the box, and it appears to be shining a 'light' onto the crackers.

And here is some extra exposed shots that just look neat. 5mW green was used.

Ah, thats what I forgot to put in my first post..I knew I was missing something.

Yes, that are rechargeable. They are Li-ion type 10430. 3.7v 350mAh. I also picked up some type 10440 Li-ion 3.6v 300mAh batteries, and they work as well.

Although its a bit tough to find a charger that charges these things.

Well, I paid $250 for a 25mW violet pen-style laser that can fit in my pocket for ease of transportation and use. I don't know why you would get negative feedback, cause this is as good as anything anybody else can make out of a PS3 diode. And a lot of those are only 10mW or less. This sucker is 25mW and has a 22mW low...thats not to shabby.

The price is right, the thing works great, and its small. Only downside is its got a slight oval shaped dot, but its not that bad.

Where did you buy the Li-ion batteries? And I'm glad to hear you got a nice 405nm laser.

Anyway, just about anything beats the sonar, pricewise ::) Is this 25mW CW? Ah but if your meter shows 25mW it must be even higher if it's pulsed so it can have a 25mW average.
