sorry if i asked a newb question but i searched and i couldn't find what i was looking for.. i extracted the diode from a ps3 .. bought the rkcstr and the Aixiz Module .. i pressed the diode into the aixiz.. setted the mA to 100mA i tested it with a mutlimeter.. the readings at the output is 6.5v and 100.5mA

but it won't turn on.. i'm either thinking it's the battery or the diode...

what batteries are people running since i'm confused... i see buton batteries and rechargeable ones.. i'm using a 7.2V battery pack is that not enough to power it ? i did see that BR needs 9V but i'm still confused.. anything else i should try before saying that the diode is dead and shelling out $ for a new one.. thanks for reading.

make sure you have your diode hooked up properly to the driver by checking the pinout of the diode. Then make sure you have the right diode (5 pin if from a PS3) Also you really should have more than 7.2 Volts but that should still put out light regardless. Your battery pack may read 7.2V but be empty.

The diode from a PS3 sled should have 5 pins at least that was the case with the KES-400A I believe they changed diodes with the latest version PS3. In any case if you are powering a reader drive at 100mA you have likely killed the diode.

The diode you want is the PHR or better yet the SF-AW. You can get one in the GB section for only $10.50. You can drive that one at 190mA and get close to 200mW.
