Ok, so I finally got my rayfoss driver today.
So I put it inside jayrobs pen host i got.

I was planning on using the rkcstr I had, but DX shipped 10440's over 20 days ago and I haven't recieved them


So anyway, I decided to use Pure energy rechargeable alkaline batteries.

I was going to use a cap ( I still might), but the rayfoss driver is set to a very low 110ma (resistor set)

Put it all together and fired it up. It works perfectly !!!

I am using aixiz 405 glass lense. Even though the aixiz module knob isnt supposed to fit it, I made it fit perfectly using little crazy glue (the new advanced formula gel one)

For some reason, my iPhone 3GS picks up the beam as very blue. It must be sensitive to near-uv.

I was able to get the button placement exact. Unfortunately, I lost the little external plastic button for this pen so its a little hard to press the button.

However, Jayrob, being the great guy he is, already sent me a replacement ! :thanks:

Next up is my 2nd PHR in DX stainless steel host.

Then a 12x!!!!!!

Or 8x if the 12x turn out to be fakes.

Hey nice work! I knew you could pull it off! Thats a nice sleek laser, you should probably put a piece of plastic or cardboard under the driver/pcb board .. cause atm it looks quite high up in the host, it might get damaged when you put the new button on.. All in all nice job man really impressed! would you reccomend the rayfoss drivers? any problems with them? are they stable at that current from what you can see?

I also would like to know is the Rayfoss 405nm driver OK? i'm planning to save 20 dollars and buy the rayfoss driver instead of the Flexdrive.

It will be a PHR build, so the rayfoss driver could be ok. I have read the review of the driver, there said that it produces voltage spikes occasionally? is that harmful to the diode (PHR) ?

The driver in the picture is just to show how it looks. That's not where I placed it. It is securely attached to the aixiz and plastic mount for button.

The rayfoss driver seems great !!!! I haven't tested the current but visually it looks great.
Definitely worth the 6$.

As for the voltage spikes if any, they can be fixed with a 47nf cap. I doubt it's needed for PHR's. Mine is set to a low 110ma so even if it spikes, I doubt it will hurt the diode.

For PHR's set to a higher current or 4x and 6x, I would recommend the use if a cap.

Also, no I didn't follow a tutorial. I did check the manual for this driver though.

The solder point placement is PERFECT for the PHR diode. The + and -, even the case pin line up perfectly. This way, I am using the case pin as + supply.

LOL I know... I mean it looks like the button pcb/driver (don't know if driver comes with switch) is quite high up in the host (you can see the top of the button coming out of the host).... to prevent damage, place a piece of plastic/cardboard underneath so it doesn't bend down.

You are misunderstanding.

The driver does not have the button on it. Also, the button is well beneath the surface of the host. The picture is misleading.

The driver connects to the "button mount". The driver is between this mount and the aixiz module (just the business end of the module, not the empty shell)

This button mount comes with jayrobs kit. It is securely holding the button in place.


Also, I am putting this up for sale for cheap. This way I can make more and get more practice for a 8x or 12x

It's OK. Just don't forget that the FlexDrive is more efficient.
The spikes are with the operating frequency of the driver (few hundreds Khz usually). So you have few hundreds of spikes per second. The additional cap is a must (at least for me).

The voltage graph, showing 0.7-0.9V peak-to-peak spikes, was made at 120mA current. At a higher current the spikes will probably have higher amplitude.
