I bet those eye shields are at least OD12 and effective for the whole spectrum of IR to UV! Just kidding folks! Those devices are truly works of art and excellent engineering! I want to be a bigger help to Igor, and I hope many of you do too! In laser building, like any endeavor, there are a lot more kindergartners and first graders than there are Da Vinci's & Michelangelo's!
Igor, new inf. suggests that a laser can be FDA compliant with just a Beam on LED and an interlock, just look at the Wicked Lasers new lines! This could mean that you too could soon be making fully FDA compliant lasers if we get your new models to include the 2 simple devices, and and get the FDA approvals, (I would be happy to help with this). So the goofy delay and key lock as well as an aperture shutter it would seem are not required any longer! -Glenn

They melt in lazores... :undecided:

I used a 175mW BluRay to cut the sheets once...

I had to make the 5 prototypes by hand, but except for some minor imperfections, they all came out looking the same.. :yh:

The hard part was making the masks out of 0.5mm plastic "paper"... :(
Two layers bonded together for strength, and to hold a shape, the rest cut from 1mm, and attached with small square holders i had to make first as well.

It's a lot of work, and it's not fun to work nights, but they give me impossible deadlines. :(

But i'm the only one who makes those devices, so it's worth a lot to them.

No one else is crazy enough to attempt work like that..

So what if you do accidentally shine it towards an aircraft, but not directly at it. Do you really think the pilot is just going to say "Hmm, that person on the ground is not shining it directly at my plane, so no worries here"? They're going to call the authorities, and they are going to come looking for you. You need a license and FAA clearance to direct a laser skyward, it's just that simple. What do you think the cops are going to do/say/think when you tell them your reasoning?...I'm not trying to shoot down your ambitions, but I really think what you're planning on doing is a bad idea not just for you, but for all of us. People that shine lasers at/towards aircraft ruin it for all of us by making congress pass stricter laws on lasers. Just something for you to think about.

Sir? Necro-posting?

Look at the date when the last post before yours was. I am glad that you were probably using the search function but at least be aware of when the post you're bumping back up was.

That is all.

I'm kinda glad he did bump it even though it was a clearly dead thread. I would probably not ever found it and it sure made for some interesting, entertaining reading.

"First, you really think I can't tell the difference between a conventional aircraft with marker lights and normal speed and course corrections from a craft with antigravitic capabilities and superluminal characteristics like speed and sudden changes in course correction?"

That right there is gold!
