Ok, remember when I promised some good pics? Sorry about that, these crappy ones will have to do for now, I need a bit more time with the macro mode on the camera. Sorry in advance... There was a drop of red Loctite on the pot that I've since removed, and I honestly cant tell if adjusting it makes a difference or not, I'll have to slap the dmm on it and see how much current it's pulling.

nice shots! That module looks completely different then the one that I bought. Too bad about the pot mod not working.

It would be hard to tell if pot modding the laser did anything without measuring it cause turning up a bluray laser a couple of mw's is going to be hard to notice visually

Yeah, that's what I was thinking also, the dot is about impossible to focus on in the first place.

Interesting, I wonder if the driver can also be used to drive a PHR-803T, or perhaps a red LOC. Getting a violet diode, host, and boost driver for $11 would be a fantastic deal.

Looks like the 50 - 200mA regulator you can buy here (I bought one - not recieved yet though):
405nm blu-ray laser diode driver/405nm laser diode - eBay (item 180430414712 end time Dec-09-09 05:18:18 PST)

It can run BR diodes up to 150mW. I don't say this pointer is capable of 150mW, but the driver board looks the same. Hopefully there is a underpowered 6x BR laser in there ;)

Edit: I just bought a pair of those too ;D

Those O-like drivers are crap....no offense to O-like. I bought a bunch and ended up throwing half of them away. I will be experimenting with the Rayfoss drivers very soon.

Just threw a meter on the module, I wish I had done this before I screwed around with the pot, but I didnt think about it. Where I've got it set now, it initially pulls ~350ma from a 3.2v supply, and quickly settles down to ~330ma.

Is this the current drawn by the whole circuit or just the diode?

Meter probes were between battery and case....Is it just me, or does that seem a little high?

It's a boost driver; that's not the current running through the diode. I think it's safe to assume the driver's not all that efficient. If it were 100% efficient and we assume 5V Vf for the diode, then it would be 224 ma through the diode. I could believe 50% efficiency on that driver, which would be 100 or so ma through the diode.

Meh, just for S&G I'm going to grab one from the link in the OP, am curious to see if it's the same one inside.

I just went ahead and bought one - at $11, you can't really go wrong unless it doesn't work at all.

*edit*
LOL apparently I failed to buy from the same seller - I actually didn't click the link as I didn't have this page open at the time, and I just searched for violet laser. Whoops. Let's hope it's not terrible.

I bought a couple of these as well - will report when I get them in... in a month or so.
