Ever since we found out that the PHR-803T was capable of higher power it seems any information about the 811 has dropped off the face of the planet...

Has anyone made graphs for this "weaker" diode?

I only ask because I have one here that I've been running at 110mA for months of daily use... I keep expecting it to die at any minute, since I'm running it at (what I assumed was) a really high current... I haven't been gentle with it either, I've used it as a flashlight while looking for florescent airsoft pellets around my room for periods of about five minutes at a time... The only heatsinking is the aixiz head, which is insulated by plastic. I was also using a glass aixiz lens, AR coated for red, which I'm sure was causing all sorts of reflections into the diode...

I'd have assumed it would have died by now... Are these "inferior" diodes actually stronger than we thought?

What gives?

Daguins been running his at 130ma's and I've been running mine at 110 as well.

Mines bluer then the others but I don't think its because its a 811.

I've reduced the current on the 0811 diodes to 110mA as well.  They were not lasting at 130mA.  I have several pointers in the community now based in this current/diode now.

The research done has shown that the 0811 is NOT "bluer" than the PHR.  They display the same kinds of variability in wavelength.

I think that as long as we can continue to get the PHR's, the 0811 will be relegated to "second fiddle" in OUR community. However, out in the world, the DT-0811 diode makes a GREAT, long lasting pointer.

Peace,

Yeah, my dorcy was never supposed to have a 811 diode and the diode was never supposed to make it out of the sled alive and i wasn't suppose to buy it on ebay and the diode was not supposed to be so blue so yeah... I got lucky.
