Can somebody try this? Focus down your BR beam to a fine point and play with some electrical tape. Im trying to figure out why at 10mW black plastic is smoking and I can almost light a match. This has been more than one diode as they all seem to do it :)

My 10mW smokes electrical tape, but thats about it. 405nm can be focused much better than higher wavelengths, because its shorter. It seems that 10mW of 405nm has roughly 2x the burning power of a 10mW 532nm when focused.

So I guess that puts an end to the idea that colour does not matter when it comes burning. I was very surprised to see the little guy smoke tape. And when a match is placed in its path, small specs of phosphourous light up just not enough to ignite the whole match. Now I really cant wait for my first 6x :)

My BR cuts thin plastic when focused. Has anybody ever tested the actual power of one of these DIY blu-rays? Does a 650nm 10mW cut if focused? :-?

I ran my first PS3 Blu kinda hard to get about 14 mW. If tightly focused -- Yes I lit a match and all that fun at ~1' distance. It will focus to a pinpoint.
HOWEVER -- The fun lasted for about 15 minutes - then LED :(

The first batch I had did 30mW @ 45ma in a tight heat sink, although I never attempted to burn anything I now regret selling them :'( But thats ok, cause today my 1st LG 6x arrived and im sure it will make up for the loss ;D That is of course after I stare at it for a few hours, and drill into my brain the sevarity of any mistakes :-/ Any tips on the H20L?

Wanna --

Advice ?? Don't handle it, look at it, remove it, solder on it or attempt to power it up !!! Otherwise -- Have fun.

Actually use all the precautions you use on a good red. Use your head and you will be BLU !!

Well I made a nice little tranfer station for any diodes I deal with. Similar to the common "clean box" used in microbiology. This at least keeps dust away, im going to humidify the room first and ground all of my pets and myself :-?

Do you happen to have any links for this model? Anything extraction related, would be much appreciated. I cant find the one I had for some reason, and think its best that I read as much as I can before going forward.

Thanks again :)

I remember drlava's 70 mW instatnly destroyed a match from a keyboard length....not many 70mW reds do that :p

They typicaly get from 5 to 15mW, even as high as 25mW in some cases.I think jayrob and/or CuriouslyCoherent tested some freaky ones that went up to 70-80mW on the Kenometer.

Yup mine cuts stuff pretty easy, stings my skin, etc etc. But its at around 50mA... it's the little diode that could!!

My blu ray diode is hot if you shine it on the lips, but to focus to a small point I need to keep the lens very far from the diode, and this causes a big loss of light.
