Hi All

I Am trying to build my own blue ray laser pointer, and I need some help.

I have read everyone’s replies earlier, I would like to purchase the ps3 sled from psxboy and use the diode from that, I would like to know is it easy to remove it? Any caution I need to take? And even better where can I purchase just the diode?

In order to install the diode what would I need? Which Aixiz module may I use? And where can I obtain it from? Could I use the 650nm 5.0mW 12x30mm 3.2VDC Laser module and somehow remove the red diode and insert the blue ray diode? Or is there an easier way?

I would like to run the diode at around 10-15mw using a pen like housing (any1 know where I can find that or what else can I use? Eg, buy a cheap red laser pointer and remove the diode?) and have it run with 2xAA or AAA batteries.

Would I need to make a driver or can I simply use the circuit within the Aixiz laser module?

And if you could provide me with any further information which would assist me building this project, such as an idiots DIY guide listing all the parts and steps lol.

Thanks

bluray diodes need at least 5 volts to work so it's not really possible to make a bluray laser pointer work from two AAA batteries

There's lots of great information and examples in the Experiments & Modifications forum. Good luck on your mod.

I thought you can run a Blu-ray with 1 or 2 batteries. Don't you just need a good buck boost driver or something to boost the voltage up a bit?

Yeah, can be done with lower voltages, but you need a boost driver. I was looking into possibly making one, but the design and building of one is much more complicated than a regular current regulator circuit.

You could possibly modify a flashlight with a boost circuit, or the circuit below (among others) from Dealextreme, to output what you need, but that's also complicated and not really for anyone who isn't knowledgable about how the circuit works.

Yeah for something that doesn't need much current, I see it as a good possibility.

My ability to understand analog circuits is sub par, but it's probably involves using a step-up transformer. I think you sacrifice current for voltage though, so you wouldn't be able to do this with a higher current diode.

For the OP: DX sells housings that fit the diodes fine. Build your own driver for sure.
