It is a bluray READER. The CH08 is the reader. The BH08 is the burner.

The CH08 READS bluray at 8X so it can be confusing when reading the spec's.

If you cannot return it, maybe we can work out a swap for it. I would like to see the sled (and more importantly the diode) from this drive.

Peace,
dave

It is NOT a PHR. PHR is actually the SLED designation (PHR-803T). The PHR sled is from the failed HD-DVD format.

I do not believe anyone else has harvested one of these. Simply reading bluray does NOT require much power. Do you still have the sled/drive? Is the diode still in its heat sink? Has the diode already been pressed into a module? Do you have any macro shots of the sled and/or diode? Does the diode have any markings on it?

Since it cannot be returned, I will trade you a PHR for it just so I can see it. I am sure that the PHR is a more powerful diode than this.

Peace,
dave

So a phr is harvested from a hd dvd drive right ???
The diode was pulled from the heatsink i dont have any pics now but i wll
take some later i have harvested these diode before!!! Before i was a member of this site i didnt know the ma's to run them at or anything about these diodes so what i did was desoldered the red diode out of my dilda and simply replaced the red diode with the ch08 diode and it worked it burns tape stings the skin burns foam and the diode hasn't burned out yet and i use it alot !!!

Once you get more and more lasers... you will probably need
a Laser Power Meter to test and adjust them...

Sweet! This is one of the reasons I wanted to see it. For $50 more you could have had an actual 8X diode. People make mistakes and do not want to waste the diode. We want/need to be able to tell them at what current they can run them succesfully.

Visual cues are better than nothing, but what you see and what you can burn doesn't actually mean much. I can light a red match with 35mW of violet light

So do you want me to send the diode to you ???

Either to me or IgorT. I think that we two are the only ones "actively" testing right now, although several members are capable. For you, I would be preferable. I live in 91744 (SoCal). Igor lives in Slovenia.

I'll send you a PHR and a Rkcstr driver in return. You can set the Rkcstr to ~120mA for the PHR and compare it to your bluray dilda for brightness and burning ability.

If you have a DMM, you could also check the current of your bluray dilda by replacing the tail cap with the dmm set to mA. That information would help further our knowledge about this diode as well.

If you want to, you could even send the bluray dilda to me to be metered. The entire package should fit into a small flat rate priority box (@ $4.85) so you would actually know what it was doing.

I do not know if priority is the cheapest way to mail for you. It has been awhile since I was in the service. My generation's war was Vietnam. If you have a more economical way to ship through the Marines, even better.

I will PM my address to you if you are agreeable to any of my proposals.

If you still have the sled around, I would like to see it as well.

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** I changed my zip code above. I wrote in 91786 which was my LAST address. It is now 91744

I will test the bluray dilda tonight as for the diode swap i'll get back to you on that ... But that deal sounds good to me, the lg diode for a phr with a rckstr driver but i am very busy training at 29 palms marine corps training base being in a outfit like the 24 marine expeditionary unit is a very demanding mos alot of live fire exercises there are shoot houses
very similar to afghanistan and the deserts of iraq so i have very little time for myself so as soon as i can i will send it to you it could take a few days til i get to go to the post office but ill keep you posted

Absolutely no hurry for me. I talk for a living now. I have more time than I know what to do with sometimes. I am very grateful that you and those like you continue to do what is needed. Take your time.

Peace,
dave
