Dead GGW

While extracting my GGW from its heatsink I broke the diode window

. I will know soon enough if it still works without the glass. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Edit: decanning it to remove broken window pieces. I wonder if it will still work

Edit#2: Decanned, hook it up to my PHRs flexdrive which is set at 156mA. Works fine, if anything it may be a little brighter without the window.

Yes, I have a 4X diode that has the window broken and it still works. I would consider taking off the H.S. for folks in the future, as it can be challenging. I also know the metal is softer and not brittle like the PHR H.S. and so I saw the material most of the way through on two sides with a jewelry saw, then it can be bent to allow easier extraction. One of the first ones I removed, I tried the two pliers approach, and I mashes a pin into the H.S, I thought it was history, but good old John_Lawson put it into my Sonar and got it working for me. I was just a little too harsh with it I suppose. I almost have the can peeled off now. Should be able to test it in about 15min. It sure would suck if I had to buy another one. On that note, Glenn.. do you have any on hand that I can re-buy from you

yeah the can on my GGW broke too. It works fine though, I peeled off the top part and removed window

Glad to hear its working. I remember when we first tapped into 803T's and i broke the window of my second harvest. I was destroyed on the inside

I've also destroyed several windows on diodes, but I believe I had lucky because none of them was DOA.

i bought an SF-AW210 sled from L$P and the diode window was broken on arrival.

i was SURE the diode would be doa, as the glass from the diode was rattling around inside of it!, after messing around i managed to pull it out and the diode still worked!

Well I got it in the chrome mini host with a flex set to approx. 185mA. Had to jump it with a 14500 because my 10440s have not arrived yet. This thing is nasty!!
