Hi
I am new to lasers
I wanted to know if i could use thermal paste, thermal glue etc to fit my diode in a module.
I do not own a vice. and as my build is a very cheap one and I am 13 years old i CANNOT buy a vice. please reply

You should use some thermal paste when putting your diode in a module, but you're still going to need a way to press it in there.

You don't need a vice. I don't have one. What I have is a diode press, and leveraged pliers that open very wide, and push in while keeping their surfaces parallel.

A diode press is a worthwhile use of ~$15 and you can order it online. In terms of what to use for the actual pressure, it doesn't need to be a vice. If you're resourceful, and have any reasonable box of tools around your house, I bet you can come up with a way to apply enough force safely to a diode press :)

Good luck!

Thanks!
Not sure how deserving that particular post of mine was, but it's still much appreciated!

Since you are new to lasers, and since this is a thread dedicated to 12X 405nm diodes, never mind the vice - get a suitable pair of safety glasses/goggles.

Also, I wouldn't recommend using thermal glue for that purpose.

Did you ever get that sled from PSXboy? Same quality as the more expensive source?

So, in the roughly half a year since I originally posted this thread, both sources have run out of 12x 405s.

So I'm left wondering whether anyone has any interesting / promising leads on inexpensive 405nm 12x diodes or sleds?
