Hello everyone
Glad to be a new member here :) I recently stumbled upon this tutorial on how to build the dorcy jr blu-ray laser. I-Hacked.com Taking Advantage Of Technology - Building a High-Power Blu-Ray Laser

I'm quite intrigued on the build, I'm able to find everything I would need for it except the heatsink I went to the dark horse website where they make them but they seem to be out of stock or no longer in production. Do any of you have any for sale or know of a fix?

One thing that has me thinking is the driver, is it possible to use something else? Possibly more powerful ;) without degrading to much of the lasers life span.

Here are the parts I was able to find :D

1. Aixiz Laser Module Housing - Blank
Aixiz Laser Module Housing - Blank [Aixiz] - $3.39 : High Tech DealZ, Simplifying the LASER Hobby!

2. Dorcy Jr 45 Lumens 1 Watt - LED Flashlight + CR123 Battery
Dorcy Jr 45 Lumens 1 Watt - LED Flashlight + CR123 Battery [Dorcy] - $28.86 : High Tech DealZ, Simplifying the LASER Hobby!

3. 405nm PHR-803T Blu Ray Laser Diode
405nm PHR-803T Blu Ray Laser Diode [PHR-803T] - $17.28 : High Tech DealZ, Simplifying the LASER Hobby!

4. Lava Micro Flexdrive Driver

Welcome! :san:
Hmmm... sorry no idea how long DarkHorse has been sold out. You can try PMing Dark_Horse. Also you might want to check out Jayrob build kits, lenses, other stuff. Jayrob makes heatsinks & also sells whole kits too.
HighTechDealZ is great & the FlexDrive is my prefered choice (certainly better then cheaper options IMO).
Also please see looking-build-laser-read-me
One thing that is missing from your list is laser safety glasses, please be sure to get some.

The FlexDrive can be set to as much power you wish but if you go over 100mA you can kill your PHR-803T Blu-Ray Diode.

Thanks for all the info Halo

I will also look into the safety glasses, that's one thing that I will need for sure. And thank you for providing Dark horeses contact info, let me see if he has any left to sell :) hopefully I can get my little project rolling on wheels by this week.

Regards

hey i just built that exact build finished it today:)
i ordered my heat-sink from here and got it within 3 days.
Heatsinks

No offense intended but that site looks a bit fishy.
I would PM Dark_Horse directly before ordering from there, he seems to be online often.

While DarkHorseCustom.com may be listed as sold out at the moment, Dark_Horse machines his heatsinks himself & DarkHorseCustom.com is his official site. This site would have obtained their stock from him.

Hey!!!!!!!!!!! halo I think that the blue ray lasers can be pushed to 110 mA without hurting the life span. 100mA is ok but for full power I recomend 110mA.

Although it is not a sin to bring a 6 month old thread back to life, I think the build has probably been completed by now and 100mA is a, 'safe', setting. It can be pushed harder but these things are all relative to the diode.

For a first post this was pretty bold advice.

Why not introcue yourself in the, 'Welcome', section and get to know the forum. ;)

Thanks for the advice and for not taking my comment the wrong way. I'll be sure to check the welcome forum.
