Sinner's 12X BDR-S06J Build
Hey Guys :wave:
Today I finally completed my Class IV 405nm Bluray Laser.. :bowdown:
The Build:
- I Used a 12X BDR-S06J Diode in a V4 Copper Module & Leads attached from DTR :beer:
- The Driver is X-Boost Super-Mini V7
- I used my new Single-cell Host MS-V4 (16340) which is perfect size for my liking
First off, Started with pressing the module into the MS-V4 Direct-press heatsink using a C-Clamp since my Vice
was a bit small for the job! I pressed the module about 2mm further inside the heatsink for having an optimal
clearence focus adapter and heatsink surfaces..
Then I cut the wires shorter, snipped and tinned them..
The Driver:
I used a low-range X-Boost V7 SuperMini (578mA Max - Pot Adjustable) and while i was playing with the pot i overturned it ,
The driver was pretty much useless for this build now, I'll fix that later.. Since i didnt had any more low-range X-Boosts, I decided to Modify one of the high-range (1.9A Max) ones..
So, A few days ago i sat down, Did my calculations -
X-Boost S-Mini has two(2) Resistors in parallel
-R430
-R130
I could also use the R330 from the First Driver, But decided to leave it be, Since i can have the pot replaced with a new one and it will be working again..
- Those resistors were so tiny and removing the R130 was a painful procedure but i did it, gave me a range of (465mA MAX) Here's how it looks now!
Notice the re-work on the R430 :beer: towards left from the pair of caps!
Then i tested the driver on my testload, I carefully turned the pot and set it at a very conservative 425mA.. I figured this would give me the satisfaction of not over-driving and killing my diode as i have heard in the past incidents.. These 12x's can be very sensitive to high currents, But thanks to the Soft-start on these X-Boosts I am very much satisfied with my settings..
Yellow: Test-load +V
Green: Test-load -V
Black : Vin-
Red : Vin+
Then I soldered the Diode's positive and Negative leads to the drivers, I connected the white case-pin to the Vin- (ground)
Then Soldered the Vin+ to the driver
Now I used some silicone thermal adhesive, I let it cure for about 3-4 Hours in the meantime I installed the tailclicky switch..
Now i installed the 3-Element 405nm Lens I had on hand, Will upgrade to G-2 with my next purchase from DTR..
Completed build , Polishing Magic !! :eg:
I was expecting it to be arround 500mW but what i saw on My Ophir LPM made my day!!
It was 600mW @425mA with a three-element AR Coated Glass Lens
Upgraded to G2 Lens and Current set @465mA Outputs a tad more than 800mW
