Ok, you've seen the PHR-803T build I did in the DX MTE 6watt cree flashlight housing. Well it was running solid with no heat build up at 100ma. So I cranked it to 125ma and it's running cool and the power is awesome.

BUT I burnt my arm while setting up a photo! I was noticing a stinging coming from my left bicep, but I didn't think too much of it, until it REALLY started to sting, then I realized the beam was landing right on my skin as I was trying to hold the camera.

Result: BLURAY SUNBURN!! I know this isn't a good thing, but I am kind of proud that I built a laser that could do this :D

My laser:

The shot I was trying to take, which turned out a bit blurry:

My arm! Yes that streak is what showed up this morning from being burnt last night!

A closer view, that's not a scratch folks, that's 125ma PHR-803T burn!

Oh, this thing pops balloons with ease too! This pop was done at about 10' distance. I took this right after I scorched my arm.

Wow nice, but how did you get a line that straight?

It was because I was kneeling down getting the shot appropriately lined up in the LCD screen of my camera which required me to move slowly to the right.

I'm still laughing about this. My wife said, "that's alarming" which I choose to take as a compliment ;D

LOL! How long was the beam grazing your arm to get that tan line?

I know my 70-80mW 803t will sting my skin, especially if focused down. Hm, you could create temporary tattoos by making a mask (cutout) then unfocusing (expanding) the beam and exposing the skin. Perhaps not the healthiest thing to do, but 405nm is tame for UV.

Nice build, BTW. Especially for a first.

Would you mind if I used that same host for my build? That thing looks awesome!

I wouldn't mind at all, it's a great host, just barely enough room for everything. It takes some creativity fitting everything in, so if you need help let me know.

I don't think buying a flashlight has anything to do with MY art. ;D

Nice power :) now thats a laser hehe

on a side note how is the diode handling the 125ma, I am currently in the waiting process for my parts to arrive and am not exactly positive on the mA i will be running through it. Based on klimbaks experiments (1 month at 90ma no prob...), I am thinking that 95 mA would be pretty good (long-term wise), but it seems the power you are getting at 125 is pretty substantial so I might be increasing my somewhat conservative current value when I am putting the laser together, it seems that these diodes are pretty capable well built and can take much more than was initially thought...?

Thanks
brtaman
