I had a PHR die at 145mA... you guys are nuts ;D

Oh.. and an update... I did some resistor changing on the 6x. its now at about 183mA and right around 205mW after the aixiz acrylic

So, should I build the new blu-ray or crank up one of the green labbys to see what it can do?

I am on the horns of a dilemma ;)

Peace,
dave

Blu-ray first cause I want to see how much power that cranks out through a meredtih lens. Then crank up the green labby. Then throw that labby in a scanner. ;D I have decided tonight after watching andy_con's videos again that that my next project will be an RGV scanner. I have plenty of money at the moment to buy just about everything I need except maybe software. If I didn't need to buy some other things as well I would go for RGB, but I can't quite afford 200mW of 473 yet. Anyone know how to build a TTL or analogue labby just about from scratch?

I am definitely interested in the results of the 190mA build also:D I've been thinking of creating a 180mA or so driver for mine, just for sh*ts and grins to see what happens..

Right now it's happy at 150mA, with just the need for a small heatsink for a 2-minute-on duty cylcle ;D.

You were at 170mA's, putting out 190mWs'. That's right about what we were figuring...about 1 mW per 1mA! :)

Another thing that is making it hard to find a ballpark on the multiplier, is that fact that just not too many people are using the meridith lens on the blu-rays :(

Hey Jay, do you have any idea on what tap size I would need to screw that meridith lens into a custom metal housing?

From his post, Daedal compared his LPM-1 readings with a coherent thermal meter head, as well as a home made thermal head too! I don't think it really matters which lens he was using... I have my Meredith glass build, as well as some AixiZ acrylic builds.

Anyway, about the Meredith threads. It is an odd size. I don't have the tap or die to test for a direct fit. I do have some thread gauges, and it fits to the 40 threads per inch gauge. Try e-mailing Meredith! Please post back if you find out...

You guys are Bad, Bad Bad!

Every time I read another of these threads, I end up cranking up the power on my little DIY PHR-803t project another 5-10mW. This thing started at 80 and is up to 125 in just a few days, lol!

Right now, if my equipment is reasonably accurate, it looks like this particular diode is outputting a raw 160mW @ 140mA. This diode crosses the 1mW/mV efficiency point at 95mW and becomes more efficient at higher power, it appears. Sorry, if I can't bring myself to test it to destruction quite yet, but last I checked Geeks.com was out of the HD drives.

Anyway, just wanted to thank everyone for the enthusiasm and info, without which I, for one, would not have had the b__ls to push this thing this far!

oh, I've been having an itching to turn mine up.

So, I did...

It started out about 110mA putting out about 100mW or so. But, just turned it up to ~150mA and it's putting out about 142mA after optics (Aixiz acrylic with lens with backing removed) and 181mW with no lens! I think I need one of Igor's lenses! Another one of mine puts out about 110mW with 125mA, after optics. I have two more bare diodes I still need to try as well :D

These measurements were taken with the Coherent thermopile head and Knimrod's DIY power meter amp board (calibrated for gain of 1000 and zeroed), with the mV measurement taken with my EXTECH DMM.
