Hi there.

Im kinda new in laser diodes, and my interests are in bluray.

Have anyone here tested this sellers diodes ?

Seeing the name of the link,
it is most likely to be a 803T 360 HD-DVD addon diode,
available for about 20 $ at the buy,sell and trade section of this board...

Your link does give an invalid item to me.

This certainly is one.

Look in the BST section of this board, you will get a way better deal on one.
You could nearly get two of them harvested and pressed into a module for that price...
That will relive you of the need to fiddle around with it when you are new to DIY lasers.

( of the topic )
Are those diodes filled with something or just air ? Vacuum ?

Wondering if you could fill it with distilled water or something to get a getter heat transfer...

Just my wild imagenation..... :)

( and yes, english is a bit foreign lanquage to me )

lmao i dare you to try it.... back on topic...most of the br "burning" diodes you see on ebay are from the phr803t sleds. im expecting another order of them in about a week and a half and theyre cheaper than most places.

They are left from all the HD-DVD systems that fell off the market because "blu-ray" sounds cooler then "HD-DVD". ;D So at the moment, they are quite abundent, but only while suplies last.

Yea, distilled water isn't a good thing to have around (or in) anything that works by pumping electricity through. ::)

100% pure water is not electrically conductive.. it's everything dissloved in it that makes it so.

Still not a good idea, as some of the materials in the diode's costruction would saturate/dissolve in the water. The optical effect of the water would also render the diode useless.

I don't think there's anything in a laser diode that will dissolve in water, but water can never be a good thing for electronics. There are probably some things in there that will oxidize, especially if the facets are coated with dielectric mirrors/DBRs. If that is the case, then those mirrors corroding from the influence of water would kill the laser. But like you say, the water won't be good for the optical properties of the diode as a whole.

The can is probably filled with inert gas, probably just pure nitrogen or possibly even just dry/filtered air. This protects from corrosion, and probably just as important (if not more important), it prevents the lens fogging up due to condensation (just like wrist watches are filled with nitrogen or dry air to prevent condensation).

And actually, I don't think it would help as a heatsink either - it will take longer for the diode to get hot since the water will absorb quite a bit of heat, but then the water will hold the heat and it won't be easily moved from the can out to a heatsink or to the outside environment. So really, nothing to gain and a lot to lose.

just build a waterproof box with a window with your whole laser inside.
