what mw does a BR have to be at to have a visibal beam at night? does the current i run it at make much of a diff?

I doubt 5mW is visible at all without major humidity, and even than barely.
You need at least 10-20mW to see the beam slightly.

I can see the beam of a blue-ray in a completely dark room without any smoke/fog.
However you can't see it at all outside without fog because even the moonlight drowns out the beam.

Mine should be around 8mw according to others ma setting. If i'm in complete dark, and I look from just behind the host, at a slight angle above, I can faintly make out the beam going away from me.

My PS3 blu-ray is 16.7mW @ 38mA's. I can see the beam in a dark room, especially once the eyes adjust to the dark. I have not tried it outside yet. Now the 473nm RPL 35 is VERY visible...
