I built my first laser today.   :D I say built but all I did was solder 2 wires together. The rest (and as much information as I wanted) came from daguin. He stepped me through everything, and even was kind enough to sell me a phr module. He deserves a medal, and I thank him a lot.
Now about the laser.
I used daguin's module (phr, aixiz, and rkcstr driver), a jayrob heatsink (v1) and a MXDL 3405.
It easily burns anything black, and can light matches within a second or two if focused. It had a very visible beamlight even with some light outside (it was dark though) and light coming from the inside. On a foggy day I am sure it is amazing.
I put a glow in the dark dust cover over the laser and when I turn it on it is like a neon flashlight.  :D
Pics below.
The first is the laser.
The next two are with the laser on and glow in the dark dust cap on.
The last is a picture of me burning matches.

I concur - daguin inspired me to complete my very first red build, an MXDL "chicken leg" style with rckstr driver and Jayrob heatsink.  He even supplied the lensing needed - he threw in a Sure Electronics 5mW module in a previous blu-ray laser purchase which I played with a bit before evicting the 5mW diode in favor of a LOC red.

I need to post pics.  This laser has the thinnest initial beam diameter out of all my high power reds.
